Does anyone feel incredibly underwhelmed by Next Gen
Discussion
So here we are - into the second Xmas for next gen consoles - and I have to say I am incredibly disappointed by what we are seeing.
As Ubisoft shovels out another piece of crapware in The Crew the PS4 is STILL without a single decent racing game. I mean really?? WTF?
It's telling that the top 3 rated PS4 games on Metacritic are mere upgrades of PS3 games.
I know it "takes time for developers to get to grips with new hardware" etc etc - but surely softcos have had their hands on next gen Devkits for well over 2 years now.
Almost every big release seems flawed, bugged, lazy and simply desperate to rip people off with expansions or micro transactions - Hello Destiny!
And perhaps worst of all - the appalling ripoff of purchasing games through the online store. Yeah - I'll pay MORE than it costs to buy a physical disc that can be traded in once I realise the latest game to be hyped and only released to reviewers on launch day is absolute toss. f
k off Sony.
Where are the f
king games? Where is the killer IP?
Incredibly poor work all round IMHO

I was just about to buy a PS4 (currently have a PS3) and then I just totally went off the idea on the grounds of what on earth am I going to play on it that will be so much better than what I have now?
A slightly better looking version of GTA5 that I already play on PS3?
I think I'll save my money!

"NEXT GEN"???? you mean current Gen? Xbox ONE and PS4?
The first 10 months YES....these last couple have more than made up for it though with great games coming thick and fast.
I'm Very happy with my "Current" gen

Off the top of my head (and on my shelf).

Grand Theft Auto V
Lego Batman 3
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare
LittleBigPlanet 3
DriveClub
Far Cry 4
Assassin's Creed Unity
The Evil Within
Dragon Age Inquisition
Alien Isolation
Just Dance 2015
All great games^^^^^Something for everyone.
Feel free to carry on hating though, if it makes you happy.

I couldn't name a single game that would make upgrading from 3 to 4 worthwhile right now. My suspicion is this market is going to remain stagnant until we see VR implemented and actually genuinely see a proper game changer in the video game ecosystem. Right now it's stale and a full of companies attempting to fleece cash from mugs using FTP tactics in games they have already paid for. A slightly better looking version of GTA5 that I already play on PS3?

Look at it this way: you'll probably be upgrading at some point, and you'll probably not save much on the cost of the console by waiting for a year. They're already easily sub-£300 and I paid about £270 for my PS3 slim in 2009, when the PS3 had been out for a few years already.
No point buying a new gen console on release, I concede, but getting one after the first round of price drops a year later isn't mad at all. And then you're ready when the big releases come out; as y2blade says, there are quite a few (not that I've played anything but GTA; a single game seems to have a bit more longevity than it used to on the Spectrum in my gaming heyday).
FWIW I did think the new gen wasn't much of an upgrade until last weekend when I replaced my telly. Played PS3 then PS4 versions of GTA back to back on a screen which can show the differences properly and I'm now reluctant to turn my PS3 on any more.

Kind of. So far the PS4 games I've most enjoyed playing have been:
Minecraft
metro 2033
GTA V
the last of us
All of which were availiable on previous gen. For the past year I've mostly been using the console to watch iplayer and youtube on though. It's a shame that the PSN membership that we have to pay £60 a year for hasn't delivered any mainstream titles as free givaways yet either.
The main thing that bugs me about next/current gen is that it seems to be becoming routine to release games with huge flaws that barely function, especially online.

I know, look at your replies to the games I posted though.

I finally got around to buying a PS4 just over a month ago and the thing that has put me off for so long was constantly thinking 'how much better will/can the games be over the PS3'.
All the games I have played so far have been great (apart from destiny which bored me to tears) but i cant help but think they arent any better than the PS3 version. Currently playing FarCry 4 which is fantastic but feels just like Farcry 3 on the PS3 though if I was to play them back to back im sure it might look slightly better.
Howerver,it is still pretty early days and having seen a 15 minute preview of uncharted 4 gameplay the other day my hopes are still high. I loved the uncharted series on the PS3 but this really did look on a different level.
The jump this time has not been as big as it was between previous generations of consoles but i think video games have got as good as they realistically can whilst still calling them video games.

Because you wanted to piss and moan on about something?
k would I start a thread complaining about the lack of decent PS4 titles if I didn't own one???Cheer up OP, it's Christmas
Can I suggest that anyone who thinks the PS4 is not superior to the PS3 load up the PS3 on a TV screen next to a PS4 game.....
However, underwhelmed? Kind of - I have the Last of Us, I have Battlefield 4 and I have Far Cry 4. All fun games. I can't wait for Skyrim II and Fallout 4 though!
