Just a note for others experiencing the same issue.

I put my Sky+ HD signal through my new Xbox One and it has been nothing but trouble. Sometimes the TV audio plays over the game or the TV Audio doesn't play at all.

The latest trick was the pictures freezing every 5 seconds or so for about 2 seconds. The audio S (PDIF) continued as normal.

Put the HDMI back directly to the TV and voila, problem solved! The Xbox One in my experience is lousy at HDMI pass through.

I've been experiencing the same problems with my Virgin setup. Last night I disconnected it from the Xbox. Bloody frustrating!!

It's a pretty poor effort from Microsoft Tbh.

You also need the Xbox on to watch TV as there is no pass through when it is off which IMO is a massive oversight.

Not really I guess. laugh as soon as I saw the "TV" bit I started looking online for quality loss etc. Didn't see any mention of the Sky image pause issue though.

+1. Had the xbox one since launch, initially being fed by Virgin, but now we're with Sky and never had a single issue, and the one guide also works fine. Using kinetic can easily swap to TV, pause, rewind, or change channels. Works really well.

I'm struggling to see the advantage of using this? What's supposed to be the point?

Voice control of set top box is a big one. You can just say the name of the channel. Also I believe that if you turn to a program which is half way through then you may be told that it is available through Netflix etc so you can watch from the start etc. There is the ability to open a window at the side for companion apps so if the world cup is on then you can see stats, fixtures etc when watching the game.

For me the biggest advantage of routing through the xbox is I only have to say 'xbox on' for it to turn on my amp, TV and the xbox itself. No farting around with multiple remotes. Similarly simple voice commands allow me to change channels, change the volume, etc. It's technology that works very well. One of those things you didn't realize you needed until you had it.

I think it's a master stroke by Microsoft because it has truly incorporated the games console in to our front room. When the wife buys a game she'll always plump for the xbox one version rather than PS4. She sees the xbox one as integrated into the technology she already knows and doesn't feel the same about the PS4 (even though only a HDMI channel change away from being used)

that's impressive if it works, I haven't tried it on mine yet because I've only just got the console.
