OK I did post a Skyrim ... a long time ago ... but I've just got back into it.. At about 25 hours... What graphical mods are worth running and where can I get them ?

I've just had a quick Google and found a 15 Mod guide on IGN :

http://uk.ign.com/articles/2014/08/20/15-mods-that...

but they require download managers installing which is something i'm not really keen on...

Install the Nexus Mod Manager, it is an easy enable/disable mods system - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/modmanager/?

Ones I have are listed on the title here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ow1aX4FnbGM

Try one at a time see what you think see above and also the most downloaded list here - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/topalltime/?a...

Or you might look at the latest graphics ones like:
Tamriel Reloaded - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/61995/?

Other than NMM the other two must haves for making mods work are SKSE (Skyrim Script extension) and SkyUI which add in-game menu based mod options

SKSE - http://skse.silverlock.org/
SkyUI is on Skyrim Nexus.

There's the 4k textures, better water mods, and a group of background sound packages that are pretty much what everyone does.

You don't need 4k, stick to 2k at most or even 1k. The higher res is for screenshots really, you won't notice much when moving around. Skyrim starts having textures issues at 3.1Gb ram limit so have a read of this - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/50244/? which is why I use an ENB with the ENBoost function.

I have a tool called Skyrim Performance Monitor - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/6491/? run this first and you can have a screen overlay of your RAM usage.

I have also added quite a few re-population mods, the "populated" ones listed on here - http://erkeilmods.altervista.org/skyrim/welcome/ I don't touch the overhaul mods on there as they conflict with others I use, but adding more NPCs and making Skyrim more realistic is what I like

I also have the increased organised bandit mod - http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/31264/?

Oh, and then is you install lots of mods that use esp plugin (so not just texture replacers) you need LOOT - https://loot.github.io/ running that will organise the load order of the plugins. smile

Do one thing at a time, if it doesn't work as intended it's easy to troubleshoot.

(Oh and always do a patch check, either in the files of the mod or in the Nexus Search box that make mods work better together, sometimes with improved features)

One last bit, if you add mods that add new scripts to the game, if you then decided to remove that mod you must go back to a save before that mod was installed (or start a new game) scripts can hang around in game saves and causes crashes when they are activated with no mod to run.

I found using steam workshop a whole lot easier than using nexus.

97 mods and counting hehe

Yea, I had some issue with a mod once, uninstalled it, and then game would crash trying to load a save. I only lost a few hours I guess, but it was a pain trying to figure out what I had done, and what I needed to do again.

I would try to stick to the big well used mods, rather than trying out loads of little ones to see what they do.

Steam workshop seems to be pretty handy, you just click on something you like the sound of, and it'll sort it out.

I installed a nude mod ("CBBE something") and also a shout called "Dibella's Compulsion" which strips the victim of clothes.
Graphically it has an uncanny level of detail...

97? That's quite a score.

I've only got SKSE, SHyUI & Skyrim Unbound. Thinking of getting one of the survival modes (Frostbound??) later if I get bored of this playthrough.

As above I would definitely recommend the Skyrim Unbound mod- if you've already played the vanilla game it gives you a whole new perspective on the world and lets you play in a different way- it's great not knowing where you are going to start and in what circumstances. I found it can also change your outlook/allegiances for the whole game depending on where you start.

I spent more hours playing through with that mod (with the main quest disabled & no dragons) than I did on the vanilla story. And the best thing is that it's all customisable so you could have the main quest disabled but still have dragons, or you could choose what kind of character you want to start as or roughly what kind of environment to start in and with what equipment etc.

The prison starts are always good fun.
