I wasn't impressed by the beta. It looked nice and the animation/sound/maps were good but I thought the gameplay was quite limited. It may have been the lack of teamwork happening in the games I played but I felt it would get old very quickly.

It wasn't really teamwork in L4D though. It was 4 people playing for the same objective, apart from sticking together all were equal.

Evolve has classes so the medic can buff the DPS character, the hunter needs to trap etc. It will be fun for the teams who know what they are doing but I think PUGs will be very random.

L4D got tedious once everyone knew the ropes on each level. Apart from the boss NPC's every playthrough was the same route, same trigger points, same zombie waves. I still go back occasionally but it's the same maps over and over, the fun is having a laugh with your mates rather than the game itself.

I played the beta but was not that impressed myself. I may seen what others think before even looking at this

I didn't play the beta, but the gameplay reveal trailer did little for me, it was a pretty slow, boring 10 minutes. In fact, the final 6 minutes of the video were 4 players piling onto one monster and they still couldn't seem to kill it - but then it couldn't kill them either. It's pretty bad when even a scripted trailer can't make the gameplay look exciting.

Thats quite accurate. As the hunters you spend the first three quarters of the game running around in circles trying to find the monster and the last bit being battered.

At least in my experience

Left 4 Dead is both a triumph for Turtle Rock and Valve, and a huge letdown. Mainly because it's fun in short bursts, but is largely pretty rubbish overall. Made even more galling by Valve's admission that it's an extremely easy game to make because the director system saves them having to really script anything at all. If that is the case, then why were both games so light on content?

I digress. This sounds as though it'll suffer the same fate as Payday 2 (and to a lesser extent, L4D). Payday 2 should have been excellent, but it turned out to be a complete load of cack, mainly because the matchmade lobbies were full of idiots, and no-one communicated. Very few people even played with a microphone attached, IME. Evolve's goals look a lot simpler but I'm quite certain it'll be full of useless idiots who don't communicate.

Ouch.

Have you seen the kicking this is getting over, pricing, day one DLC and the like.

Here is what they said about the season pass:

“Considering that if you bought them all separately, all of that content will run you about £30,” a statement from 2K reads. “Stash that extra £5 in your pocket as a thank you for joining us on the hunt.”

I mean, really. Come on. The game isn't cheap to start with, yet they expect another huge wad of cash dropped on just to unlock some crappy extra content? The price of which would almost buy you the Resident Evil Remake twice over! I am growing more and more tired of games being released incomplete to fuel the DLC market (and markup). It's a load of rubbish. I accept that in some games, DLC is created with it's own budget in mind (like Sunset Overdrive, or Dark Souls 2 - the main games are huge and complete feeling). Not every game is like this though, and many smack of simply using DLC to wheedle a quick buck out of the consumer for things that should have been there on the first day of release.

Has anyone actually played the retail game? I was thinking of buying it later today boxedin

I haven't played the beta only seen videos - seems decent, maybe a bit short but good to pass a few weeks before bf:hardline is out. Much in the same way titanfall and destiny were "ok" for quick buy-play-ebay types games...

You need some online friends tongue out

L4D - great fun spent many an hour (over 200) with a couple of friends.

Payday 2 - same again - I'm only at prestige 1 level 95 (so 195 in old money). Nothing better on a Friday evening than desperately holding off bulldozers as we're emptying the bigbank's vault...

If you're on PC join us.... (Steam handle is fadingfool).....

Well I pre ordered this game, and only played couple of hours ,but I have to agree with that review ,based on the limited time I have played.
The 3rd person view from the monster makes battles st,and in the few games I played as monster the hunters spawned right next to me ,so I was hunted down immediately .im sure if you can spend hours upon hours learning all the maps then you can evade them and evolve, but it was almost impossible to evolve as they were literally a few yards behind me from the start.
The hunters vs monster battles are pretty st ,there is no satisfaction shooting the weapons ,and you can't really see what damage you are doing ,as amonster it is awful ,the 3rd person perspective doesn't work for me,and really the game literally boils down to the monster trying to kill the medic, kill the medic and the rest are easy,if you don't kill the medic you will get slaughtere.
Factor in there is just no sense of accomplishment after a battle, you feel like you've just had one of these frenetic key bashing battles in Diablo or the like ,but not as good.
I will spend a bit more time in the hope that it improves ,but at the moment I'm really pissed off with it.

Think I'll avoid this as well, didn't like the beta at all and it sounds like the final release isn't up to much.
