Apologies for the soft core post but I bought a Wii U starter pack for the kids at Christmas and wanted to let them try Wii Sports.

Quickly worked out that we (sic) needed at least one Wiimote so acquired an OEM Remote Plus and have synced it but the four Wii Sports (Tennis, etc) are still greyed out...

Do we need to create a Nintendo Network ID to unlock the Wii Sports games? I thought they were supposed to be on the machine and free to play?

P.S. Should have told them to wait for the Spectrum Vega as I could probably get that one to work!

On the Wii U I'm fairly sure you have to buy the Sports you want, either as a rental or just buy it outright. You do need an account I think. I certainly did, anyway, though it sounds like you may have bought a special pack?

The so-called Premium Pack Mario Kart 8...

Wii Sports appeared in the menu from day one but was inaccessible until a Wiimote was synced. Now I'm one step closer but it looks like I still need to create the Nintendo Network ID and do something in the eShop to unlock it but feel a bit tricked as its either already there or it isn't and if it wasn't I could have always downloaded it or bought a disc at some later date...

I know - it does feel like a bit of a gyp - I think it's because the original Wii famously came with Wii Sports for free. It's good though. I've bought the tennis and the golf.
