My internet is sadly a bit s
t to stream, but it is something I wouldn't mind having a pop at.
From what I've seen from those who are successful...
Be very good at a game (the more popular it is, helps)
Charisma, got to be able to chat with your viewers.
Regular hours.
Games before release - a lot of internet sites will post out games a day early, streaming those I suspect will get views.
Be a woman.
I'm sure there is more to it but the successful streams seem to tick a few of the above.

Pretty much this, also have a face cam set up and make lots of stupid faces/noises...

My brother in law does this and has a few followers. I just don't see the point TBH, I would rather play a game than watch someone else play it.
I did set up an account so my brother in law could see Star Citizen first hand, so that sort of thing is probably the only point of it to me.

Interaction is also key I think. Involving viewers via ad-hoc polls for decisions points, renaming in-game characters after followers etc etc.
Doesn't need to be twitch - youtube is also big in this area though slightly less dynamic at times. A lot of streams end up on youtube as well as the more static content.
I see the appeal - it's sometimes interesting to see new games (replacing reviews), different strategies for complex games or just to watch someone who is good - particulary for things like iracing.
Someone sat playing a generic fps etc I'm less sure on.
Likewise actually doing it - it strikes me the people who are most successful share similar traits to 'normal media' personalities in many cases. Generally quite likeable and as has been said charismatic with high production qualities. Not for everyone.

Consistency is the key. People will get to know your times and come back.
Alot of the times these streamers become like a friend when some of these people are lonely and so being consistent cements the relationship for the viewer.
Don't be a nazi, let things ride, understand its the internet and you will be trolled at every available opportunity.
Dont show horse cocks on stream
Also you will develop a following for your main game. If you're a diablo 2 streamer and then move onto another game, don't expect those same people to turn up to watch you play heroes of the storm

Yup, I've used it just to see what a game is like before buying it. I did set up an account so my brother in law could see Star Citizen first hand, so that sort of thing is probably the only point of it to me.

Pretty much covers it for YouTube in general. Nothing new, really. I never had a face nor personality for TV/acting/radio which is why I never entered the industry. f

Hi all,
I have recently set up a Twitch account after having a read into what Twitch exactly is and I didn't realise how much money people earn from streaming themselves gaming. Does anyone live stream on Twitch and have recommendations on how to grow followers/viewers?
Best advise I can give you is look at loads of different streams of the same game with different amounts of viewers. Look at the ones with the most viewers first and see what they do. Offten it can take hours of watching to see everything that they do. Compare the high viewer streams to the low viewer streams and try to take ideas from there.I have recently set up a Twitch account after having a read into what Twitch exactly is and I didn't realise how much money people earn from streaming themselves gaming. Giving the "chat" a good experiance is always the best way to start. Doesnt matter how many people are in chat just talk to them and interact with them. Let them make song requests etc.
I know a couple of people who have done very well out of both twitch and youtube and others who have failed. The difference was 1 key element.
The people who succeeded did it for fun, the revenue was a bonus of which come over time and not by trying to force the issue.
The people who failed did it for the money.
There seems to be 2 key elements to making it work,
1. The people follow you, like you and watch because they find you funny or interesting.
2. Your able to stream a topic people will find interesting e.g. You can provide insights into why/how you play the way you do.
As now streaming is done by many, its even harder to stand out or even to get someone to watch you especially going it alone. What seems to be the common trend is to "get in with the popular crowd" be part of their streams of which many follow, all the time streaming your viewpoint of which will gather a small crowd and allow you to build a audience.

Childrens' fitness classes sounds like the perfect experience for a Minecraft channel!
Sadly, I just play outdated games like Diablo 2 (badly) and BF3 (badly). I also play Real Racing 3 on my phone a lot which isn't much use - I think it'd crash if I tried to stream from it while playing.Aphex said:
Theres a bit of a small following for d2 Hoofy, get on there, I'll give you a follow
Thanks - I think you missed the bit where I said I played it badly. The only interesting bit is that I named my bear Hilary and tried to keep it alive for as long as possible. I got everyone in the game to say hello to my bear. I tanked her up ie spent all my spell points on maxing out the bear skill. Can't remember how many HP but on my own, it could finish off the T-rexes if played strategically.

Doesn't matter mate, just chuck up in your title that you're new to the game or something. People will come along and give you (way too many) tips.
Might be worth looking at the modded servers too like the slashdiablo reddit one.

WOW, thanks for all these tips guys, it has helped a lot. I will hopefully set up a stream over the coming weeks and I play games like GTAV, FIFA, Madden, NBA. It seems games with a story or streamers who play online are generally the most popular, is this a correct assumption?
I follow a guy called Swiftor who plays COD a lot. What he does best is invite his followers into his online games and creates games like hide and seek, snipers vs sneakers etc. It seems a great way to get more followers and it's also quite fun to watch. He also gives people who follow him something called Swift bucks, a virtual currency and 1 is given every minute you watch the stream. You can then use these swift bucks to bet on games as mentioned above. He has over 600k followers.
A user I like watching a lot and has made me go out and buy the game (Destiny) is Professor Broman, he is the perfect streamer in my opinion. He has over 300k followers.
