Project Gorgon: Crazy little MMO (Currently free)
Discussion
I was introduced to Project Gorgon yesterday and it's a great little game, totally free currently as well.
Essentially it's an MMO in Alpha and the graphics are pretty underwhelming but for me it's got a real Minecraft type feel to it in terms of scope and freedom. The developers have been working on it in their own time for several years and have put it into Kickstarter so they can get it over the line in a year's time (and improve the graphics).
In the meantime however the Alpha is totally free (not F2P with micro-transactions, just free) and no server wipe is currently planned before release.
There's something quite compelling about it in an old-school way. It is very humorous and doesn't hold your hand like current MMOs do, there's no real quest giver per se but conversations will eventually lead to quests being given. The game really rewards exploration but do make sure you don't run into something too big too fast
The leveling up system is fun (I've started leveling up in death for example) and if you get defeated by bosses you get inflicted with a curse that is very hard and/or expensive to remove (eg: being turned into a cow or being given a massive head) You can then run the entire game as a cow for example and level up being milked.
Usual caveats of a game in Alpha but as it's free and quirky and if you can get past the dated graphics is really quite fun and compelling so I thought I'd mention it here.
