Trying to recall an old PC game..
Discussion
It's very late and I can't get to sleep.
The reason being; I can't remember for the life of me what this game was called and the finite details of it!
I'll give you a very vague description in the hopes that someone, somewhere will have a flashback. I'm not even bothered about re-playing it (although that would be cool) I just need to find solace in what it was called!
I played it at a friends house in the late 90s, the game may have already been old by this point - I don't know.
It centered around a free-roaming planet exploration wherein you drove this small APC style vehicle, which from memory had the ability to both fly and drive across land.
The objective was to rescue civilians / survivors which you located using the mini-map. Once you reached them you sort of teleported them inside the vehicle and then had to get to a checkpoint to evacuate them.
The game itself was 3-dimensional, I think you you could have either a cockpit view or from 3rd-person.
I believe you had to stave off attacks from aliens or similar which would harm the survivors.
All I've found so far are archives of forums where users have posted similar descriptions as mine - but never been concluded.
Does this strike any chords with anybody!?

I keep coming across that one because of the description, but the game I'm remembering was much, much newer than that and had 3-dimensional surfaces which you had to scale.
I seem to remember there being two types of 'civilian' you had to rescue, some who were red and others who were blue.

V2000?
The successor to Virus?
Was it PC only?
We certainly played it on PC. It looks similar to V2000, but the objective was never to build / develop a civilisation, it was much simpler search & rescue type thing. You rescued these folks requiring evactuation, I'm sure they were wearing coloured space suits indicating what type / significance they had.The successor to Virus?

A game called "scorched earth" is coming to mind, enemies were like spiders from memory?
Can;t seem to find info online though. Was 3D, first person and involved travelling vast deserts.
The enemies are something which I'm struggling to remember, but I remember it being intense and having to flee them. Could have been giant insects / aliens! Can;t seem to find info online though. Was 3D, first person and involved travelling vast deserts.

Ooh I know this one. Think I got it in my steam list. Lots of tessellated type graphics?
The landscapes were very basic due to the time when the game was developed. It had a similar appearance to another old game where you had to fly a futuristic war jet over vast distances, destroying bases and enemy aircraft along the way in some epic dog fights.C.A.R. said:

Damn it now I want to find out the name of it, remember playing this too!
ETA couldn't you pickup upgrades by driving over them and a female computer voice spoke the names of them like atrium (well not that but it sounded like that)
Yes I think there was an element of that. And the same voice would also tell you there were people who needed evacuating, prompting a flashing marker on the mini-map... Perhaps these people were mining for something, I can't remember. You certainly didn't rescue them from settlements though.ETA couldn't you pickup upgrades by driving over them and a female computer voice spoke the names of them like atrium (well not that but it sounded like that)

Popped that into YouTube for a bit of nostalgia and noticed it's been remade. Sounds a bit buggy.
