Retro gaming?

What are some good options for retro gaming? It's obviously a broad topic as there were so many platforms. But is there a good option to be able to play a wide range of classic retro games from a single platform?

Controllers & joysticks being essential to this, not using a PC keyboard.


Thinking along the lines of being able to play the original Mario Bros games, but not limiting it to Nintendo only.

Google again, I remember one place that had something like 20 different versions of streetfighter 2, included some of the rarer stuff like hacked ROMs that used to go about.

Have a look on eBay for an original (modded) Xbox with Coinops/XBMC installed on a bigger HDD (120gb+) thousands of classic games ready to play on any Xbox compatable joypad or stick.

DosBox or similar and the Monkey Island games, Discworld etc etc.

Can be done on a tablet or phone.

Those old consoles are quite cool though. SNES/GameCube/etc.

For SNES games you could check out the ZSnes and Snes9x emulators, both are easy to set up IIRC.

For ROMs you could look for a Bay where Pirates congregate you might find something there. Or Google. In either case I trust you own the original cartridges

I bought an N64 the other days. I haven't used my PS3 since the week I bought it, but I'm really enjoying the 64.

I just need a couple more games (I only have Goldeneye) and a couple more controllers for some Goldeneye and Perfect Dark multiplayer.

I make regular trips down to Arcade Club for my fix of retro gaming but I've also got a full MAME install (about 3 Tb) with an X-Arcade controller but I'm looking to build a JAMMA system soon.

It may not be everybody's nostalgic cup of tea - but there is a new gamepad/emulator for the Spectrum 48k. Plug it into your tv and you're off! Am having great fun playing Attic Attac and other games of my childhood.

Not really that much of an Ouya fan. One of the few gaming purchases I regret.

Moved house a couple of weeks ago and found loads of old games, bunch of neo-geo carts, some old game gear and game boy games.. sadly no consoles...
