Finally decided to go back to Sony
Discussion
So I used to have a PS1 & 2 & the PS2 consumed many years of my life (early-midteens). Then I moved to Xbox for online gaming, I think, was a long time ago. & that started my Microsoft gaming platform history. Got an Xbox 360 maybe a year or two after they came out & loved it. I still do. By the end of its life (as in pre-xbox one) I think the console was near perfect. It did everything needed, using the interface to move around & play with parties was very easy, the games were great (not that you couldn't get them on PS3 at the time) & all in was probably the defining console of my life, so far. Was a little loud & games crashed every so often but whatever, didn't ever piss me off enough to stop playing.
Now I wanna get onto the Xbox one.
Since day one (& I do mean day one, got the day one edition on release, first time ever I got a console on its release date) that console has been nothing but a massive annoying let down.
The interface is awful, just a somehow shi77ier version of Windows 10.
Joining/leaving/switching parties is a slow, clumsy task & the kinect only wants to understand maybe a quarter of the commands given to it so that's no better.
The storage is atrociously small considering you need to install every damn game you get, I was finding I could only keep about 4-5 games installed at time before being forced to buy an external hard drive.
Even with the console set to always sign me in when I turn it on, it still seems to forget half the time.
With the standard headset connected, the controller would drain a couple of Duracell batteries in about 30-45 minutes flat. & the controllers just feel cheap. Even the battery storage on the rears are just a plastic flap that comes off a bit too easily.
The games seem to freeze much more than they would on 360. Granted that may be because developers are still getting used to the console but still.
There's more but I think that sums up the worse parts about it. Just one massive let down.
A few of my friends were ranting & raving about Until Dawn recently & then that got me thinking about console exclusive games. So just to name a few which hit me the most, xbox gets Halo, Gears of War & Forza. I can't stand either Halo or GoW & the last Forza just made me upset with the crappy guidelines of what cars race in what events. Same as in Horizon 2.
So finally decided to pre-order the Star Wars Battlefront edition PS4. 1TB PS4 with the game & Vader covering on the console & matching colouring on the controller & a voucher for 4 classic Star Wars games. Seemed like a bargain considering I was going to get the game anyway. I would have switched my fallout 4 order but it's a Pip-boy edition & to be honest I doubt I could last the week & a half between the release date for Fallout & when I'd get the PS4.
Anyway, just a big crappy rant but felt like doing it & feel better now

What external drive did you get? I need one of these too.
Samsung 1TB thing, was like £40 or so from Amazon. I'm about 80% sure it came with a connecting cable.Sorry to derail your ranting?

I haven't used one before, do you just plug it in and down load more games?
Sorry to derail your ranting?
I feel as though it's re-enforcing my point!!! Not the only person with this problem.Sorry to derail your ranting?

Once it's plugged into the Xbox you have to format it. You do that just by going into the system & selecting storage or external devices or something similar & just following the prompts.
Thanks!
As an aside, I think the ps4 and xboxone both came out with 500gb hard drives. The new xboxone has 1tb. Not sure if there are differences the way the games are downloaded on each console though.
I don't think you can use your external hard drive on the ps4 either.

Without derailing the thread to much I've just bought the below and a 2TB Sata drive. Apart from cosmetically it's major benefit is you don't loose a USB slot permanently and in fact gain 2. It took a bit of time to get the Xbox to see the drive but no more than 10mins.

After looking at the first image for a while I was convinced it was shaped like a tiny xbox. Then I saw the others....http://www.amazon.co.uk/Collective-Minds-Drive-Enc...
I'm the worst/most guilty for this gen for jumping ship. I kid ye not I have gone PS4 to Xbone and back again 3 times! I'm currently in the xbox one camp and the PS4 has been "borrowed" by #1 son and is upstairs.
The PS4 is the better gaming machine, MS dropped the ball giving the Xbone slower memory and utterly screwing up the launch with the emphasis on media and DRM. However I'm not a hard core gamer and as an all rounder, the Xbone is the better machine IMO. That and the fact Sony's online service, although improving is still as good as XBL.
Things that put me off the PS4..
Blu ray player is crap and no blu ray remote, I mean WTF Sony? The PS3 is one of the best Blu ray players and has a really good remote too, how hard can it be. Still there's hope Sony are finally going to release one.
PSN, PS store clunky and slow (not as bad as PS3), can't connect sometimes, down time still an issue.
Most my friends are on XBL
Things that put me off the xbone
Its fugly, really really fugly.
As said by the Op, dash is slow, cluttered, horrible. Basically its because its Windows 8 and that's a B of S too. Hope again come November Xbone will go to the Win 10 OS.
Graphics res/frame rate can't compete with the PS4.
Looking forward to xbox backward compatibility too, I really hope they do left for dead!

The ps4 is a lovely machine, I prefer mine to the xbone but the games library is better (for me) On the xbone so I'd really advise keeping both as I enjoy both machines.
I'm going to keep the Xbox, just gonna avoid using it as the primary system.stargazer30 said:

I saw that advertised & got really excited. Then I saw the promotional image they released which showed loads of game covers.......the games were not the ones people may be anticipating.Gassing Station | Video Games | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
