Race seat setup (sensible) options for the home
Discussion
racing video game peoples..........
for the first time ever, was thinking of getting a race seat setup for the house(just bought a new house and have some space)
I have tried searching - but nothing popped up?
What is the smart money on? Googling provides me with 20k options.............or 300 quid options
What do people use? My thinking is i'll just use whichever is the best game of the moment, so will swap between PC, PS3, XBOx or whatever.
I can use an old race seat too........
I think what i'm looking for is a good rig to attach a seat to, and which steering wheel, pedals and screen set up?
any help or experience mucho appreciated
thanks

Here's my cheapy cheapy one,
, looks a bit better now as I've wrapped up facing surfaces with black vinyl, makes dusting it much easier.
Just a good plastic box, upturned, some strips of wood bolted to the frame of the seat, then also bolted through the wood and through the box. Takes my 10st weight fine, wheel can sometimes wobble a bit but not too bad.

For some more moneys, you've got the likes of these

There are a few options out there for a reasonable price
This is my set up which I think works well

For everything there, seat, stand, pedals, wheel and gear shifter came in at around £550
Which I think isn't too bad.
The wheel is a Logitech g920 but it's only compatible with PC and Xbox One.
I just plonk the TV on a desk but you can buy a proper TV stand to match the rig for around £150

As an FYI on wheel compatibility.
All will work with PC, most of those will also work with PS3.
However, PS4 x360 and x1 are not usually compatible with one another. The only example of true cross platform is the fanatec stuff which is good but pricey.
I personally use a wheel stand pro, not a proper race seat but works well and folds down to get the wife acceptance factor.

I've got one of these:

Vision Racer VR3. Have had it for about 5 years, has been faultless in that time, but it was a bit costly new (~£900 I think)
They're quite old now though, so you may find one on ebay. Strikes me as the sort of thing guys will have to sell when they cohabit
Fortunately there's space reserved at the new house for mine

I have one of these, fold's away nicely and is pretty darn sturdy. I just use an office chair with it and it works for me!

My brother bought one of these fold up ones.
He says it's very good.

that looks like a great little 'quick' setup for a reasonable cost............ Would just need a TV stand on top.He says it's very good.

I may well go straight for that - see how much use it gets and then build something more permanent in the loft conversion
thanks!

I use an Obutto. Prior to that I had a cheap-o one which was alright but it was not solid enough and too much flex in the wheel and pedals kept slipping etc. Next tried building one, again not great. In the end invested in this one.
Been sim racing for many years and the Obutto has served me well. Rock solid still, no cracks etc. Seat full adjusts back and forward and also tilt.

All depends on how much you want to spend.
I had a game pod frame with one of my old race seats on and a G25. Cost hardly anything and served me well for 7 years!
Have just updated and decided to do it properly. Went for a vesaro rig, fanatec wheel, pedals etc and purchased a specialist gaming PC to run iracing. The difference is night and day but the budget was quite large. Then it makes you start thinking about triple screen set ups, dash displays and all kinds or ridiculous things!

Not the best picture but you get the idea.

Best - Fanatec
Very Good - Thrustmaster T300 + T3PA Pedal Set - Standard pedals are poor
Adequate - Logitech G29
Would be my recommendation. I went Thrustmaster with the uprated pedals and manual box.
Suppose I did not want to pay more than say 150 quid , as will be my first dip into the murky world of steering wheels etc and may not use it enough to warrant it....Very Good - Thrustmaster T300 + T3PA Pedal Set - Standard pedals are poor

There isn't one at that price point for ps4. You could pick up a g25 or g27 2nd for less than that but they don't work on ps4. Thrustmaster have a new bundle coming in Nov/Dec that is the t300rs with the Ferrari rim and 3 pedal set for £300

Not as good as I t300 but it's half the price so may be worth a punt. On the thrustmaster Website it says it works in ps4
Isrtv on YouTube reviewed this wheel, looks v good at the price.
