PC gaming monitor
Discussion
Bit of advice needed- thought it better placed here than in the general computer section as it's entirely gaming related.
I'm currently running my gaming PC through a Dell 24" widescreen monitor that I brought (for a fairly hefty sum!) way back in around 2008. It runs at 1920 x 1200 res and to be honest hasn't put a foot wrong in all these years of use, but in the next couple of months I'd like to get something a bit bigger & better.
I've no interest in spending silly money on a 4k screen as I have neither the budget for one nor for the hardware to make the most of it. I'm aiming more for a 26"/27" 3k IPS monitor.
A mate of mine has the Dell Ultrasharp U2715H 3k IPS, and it is certainly a fantastic looking piece of kit. However price-wise it's still around £380 which is more than I want to stretch to.
Are there any impressive 26"/27" 3k IPS monitors for sub-£300 that I should be looking at? Or should I just hold out for the Dell one to drop in price? Any gaming specific features I should be looking out for (refresh rates etc)?
For what its worth my GPU is an AMD Sapphire R9 290 tri-x, and my CPU an AMD FX-8350 if that limits my choices at all (GTA V maxed out at 1080p averages 70-80fps no problem).

I bought an LG 29" ultrawide recently which I'm really impressed with. Native resolution is 2560x1080 which is fine for me, the extra width gives a little extra immersion in games. Supports AMD Freesync too, so you get added smoothness if your GPU supports this (don't think mine does).

That does look an interesting option, I'm not sure I am fussed about having that amount of widescreen though! Would rather stick to 16:10 aspect ratio or thereabouts. I could see it being pretty cool for racing/flight sim games though.http://www.scan.co.uk/products/29-lg-29um67-paek-w...
It's great for desktop apps too, plenty of width. Because it's not got a silly vertical resolution it doesn't tax graphics cards terribly heavily running games, all mine still play great at native resolution on my Radeon HD7950.
16:9 and 16:10 screens look squished to me now, the same way 4:3 ones did when I got my first widescreen

I can imagine! I've got used to 16:9 & 16:10 over the years so I guess I'm just comfortable with those now. This PC I only use for gaming and nothing else, so the monitor is being brought for that purpose only. At work though I would absolutely love that particular monitor!!16:9 and 16:10 screens look squished to me now, the same way 4:3 ones did when I got my first widescreen
