Anyone know why this is likely to be an 18 rated game? My son really wants it but if the content really is worthy of an 18, then he isn't having it (I have flatly refused to let him have GTA).
I have had a look online but can't really see anything *that* bad that makes it look like it should be an 18?

Lots of guns and explosions as expected but perhaps it's because more to do with the fact you can kill the civilians as well as the bad guys?
In JC2 there isn't particularly lots of blood/gore and swearing. How old is your son?
He's 13 and lots of his mates have GTA (so he says) but I have steadfastly refused to even entertain the idea of him having that but this game doesn't seem to be like that in terms of content? In JC2 there isn't particularly lots of blood/gore and swearing. How old is your son?

JUST CAUSE 2 is a shoot-em-up and adventure game for the XBox 360 console. You play as a character called Scorpio, a mercenary soldier causing mayhem in a fictional Asian dictatorship. This game was classified '15' for strong bloody violence.
The violence is strong, with large dark red blood spurts appearing when enemies are shot. The tone throughout is very over-the-top and 'gung-ho', with no emphasis on personalised violence or sadism, which might have made an '18' certificate more likely. The gameplay focuses on you making the most of your manoeuvrability, requiring you to make use of your grappling hook and parachute at every available opportunity as you blast away at the enemy and cause large explosions, without dwelling on any realistic details.
Other issues include some moderate sex references, with characters discussing a 'wehouse' several times, and some mild bad language
Assume the same for JC3 with fancier graphics and bigger explosions. The violence is strong, with large dark red blood spurts appearing when enemies are shot. Loved JC2 & to be honest i'm surprised it was classified an 18 as the Gameplay isn't what i'd term as violent in the same way the COD Black Ops series is, however you were able to kill everything/anything & lots of blowing $hit up.
Can't wait for 3 to come out in a week as was by far the best game i had on the PS3.

That's kind of my point really - I'm (reasonably) ok with him blowing st up etc. I don't think it means he's going to go out and do it in real life (we went to a gun range in NJ earlier this year and he really didn't like it).
He plays Forza and likes smashing the cars up but that doesn't mean he's going to take mine off the drive and go loony with it
I do think that the GTA content is slightly different though and that I am perfectly justified in not letting him have it, as I don't think he needs to be exposed to prostitution and drug taking in a video game.

There is torture as well apparently - I haven't played it.He plays Forza and likes smashing the cars up but that doesn't mean he's going to take mine off the drive and go loony with it

I think you're right though - there are lots of grey areas in parenting where it depends on both parent and child (and ultimately may not matter) - but I don't think GTA 4 or 5 is one of them!!
I didn't see any just cause to be unduly concerned about the content in JC2, it's definitely more cartoon violence then realistic and it doesn't have drugs and hookers so definitely a step down from GTA IMO. However the scene mentioned above might be a bit much depending on the maturity level of your boy.
I hate to be a debbie downer...but not great impressions of its performance. Dipping to 17 FPS and some memory leaks on consoles.
This is apparently being tested after applying a 2GB "day one" patch.

I suspect a few games have issues like this at launch - so it may all get fixed or not be an issue - but I just wanted to post this so people were aware.

Yep I read the same but hopefully it won't be so much of an issue on PC IF they've taken the time to optimise it for that platform properly. This is apparently being tested after applying a 2GB "day one" patch.

The problem with the current gen consoles is I don't think they future proofed them enough. They are already struggling to run current triple AAA titles and they've only been out two years.
