What PS4 titles for......
Discussion
Hi folks, already getting excited about Xmas as have bought my boy (and for me :-)) a PS4
I'd like to find a game or 2 that we can play together. On PS3 for example, we loved played co-op lego games and the best was probably Portal 2. It's a kind of "Friday night" boys hour that I'd like to re-instate as it's sliding away as he grows up :-(.
He's 12...so not into anything with a PEGI rating at the top end.
I got the PS4 with Nathan Drake (for me) + Minecraft (he's mad on the PC on this but I figured we could play this together on PS4 ?), FIFA 16 (he plays this on PS3 but when we play together I have to play as Barcelona and him as Accrington Stanley :-)) & Driveclub
Are there any games yet on PS4 that meet the criteria ... ie good for a 12 year old but that you can play together ?
Thanks

I think one of the problems is that there aren't as many games nowadays that you can play together on the same console at the same time. Everything seems to be 'online' multiplayer or co-op, like Destiny as an example.
Black Ops 3 has split a screen co-op option (assuming you think it is suitable for him). PS Plus has Gauntlet:Slayer available for PS4 this month which you can also play together which I found be be surprisingly good fun.
There must be others. What about games where you can take it in turns? Like Project Cars for example, you could try to beat each others laptimes or take it in turns to race through a season?

Many thanks. I'm not one for allowing a 12 YO to play 18 games so Black Ops is out. He'll grow up fast enough without the violence and language that is present in today's 18 PEGI games.....
Taking turns is an option but clearly not ideal. I love race sims but opted for Drive Club 'v' Project Cars as it seems Project Cars is more sim, Drive Club more arcade....which I thought best for a balance for son + me .... and I haven't managed to blag the extra browny points to get a wheel to get the most out of Project C (seeing as my current GT wheel won't work on the PS4 . grrrrrr...but that's another story !).
Star Wars is a 16 but reading around it there is some ??? about why ....considering some of the content of the films which had a lower rating. Might look at that as a post-Xmas option as it's my birthday aswell in January :-). Wandering around Tesco yesterday it amazes me what % of the games are 18 'v' what I would consider OK for kids. I guess the majority of console owners are 16+ these days........
Happy to take any other advice on current games that fit the bill (or if anyone knows anything that is coming).
Cheers

Bit old for the Lego games and a bit young for the proper shoot em ups. Lego Dimensions should be good enough, I've just bought it to play at Christmas with my 6-year old. The new Lego Marvel is out in January and hopefully Plants Vs Zombies 2, which is due early next year, has online/split screen multiplayer and not just split screen horde mode type games.
You may be able to turn off gore and excessive stuff in some of the high PEGI games, worth looking at before buying any though.

I have been having the same issues finding suitable games as mentioned above, the Step-boy has had a PS4 for little over a year and barely touched it, i got one last month as a prize in work and now want to play more and more especialy against some one who for at least a week will be worse than i am at gaming.
we've been sharing my Xbox One for over year and having to share controllers or play separate as i only have one remote for now. Worms is good for this as its a person at a time and really fun.
Opted for Need for Speed Rivals which he wanted as I've had the demo on the Xbox and now the Game but thought we could play together through Share on the PS4 or i'll go the racer and he the Cop, he is getting better at me at this game and i've played them for years. Fecking 9yo's and there ability to learn!!

I play star wars with my boy and it's fine.
I suspect the reason is is 16 is the realism of the graphics and the online element. There is no gore or bad language in the game, violence is no worse than the movies.
Never too old for lego.
Knack has 2 player co-op, not tried it yet, it came with the console.
Oh and Gauntlet is the 'free' game with PS+ this month. That's good fun.
