This afternoon I reloaded (after a PC rebuild) Half Life 2 from Steam.
After 10 minutes of gameplay I remembered just how good the series is, so, as someone not hugely engrossed in the gaming world, is there a Half Life 3 on the way? I've looked it up and it seems to be gaming folklore, but are Bethesda really going to leave us hanging?

Half Life 2 is probably one of the best overall games I've played.
Still love how Valve won't let you aim down the sights lol.
There will be a HL3 but not for a little while.
I think there are HL2 Ep1 and Ep2 expansion packs.

Nope, but I shall tomorrow, thanks!Would be a guaranteed money spinner though, even if it turned out to be rubbish. Seems odd we get a new Call of Duty and Assassin's Creed game every other week, yet they have no interest in giving us the third installment of HL, Portal, Team Fortress or Left 4 Dead that people are clamouring for
You can play the free addon 'Portal Stories: Mel' while waiting for Portal 3.

I can't see HL3 coming soon if at all, it would never live up to any kind of hype and Valve currently make too much money selling other peoples games.
Maybe they're trying to avoid the trap that Star Citizen has fallen into - promising a release date then delaying it for years. I'd prefer them to do it quietly then spring it on us when we're least expecting it.Valve has a habit of releasing Half Life when they have new software/hardware to showcase it on.
The rumor mill went into overdrive when Steam announced the Steam Box; people were convinced the Steam would use this as a platform to launch the new game and boost console sales. Obviously that didn't happen.
The Source engine is pretty old now, so I imagine we won't see a new one until Valve/Steam come up with a new engine. I'm getting sick of waiting now
