The Division. Am I doing something wrong?

I am having problems in that my progress is not being saved.
I have only been playing the game for a few hours. I reached the precinct seige in Brooklyn and completed that section, killed the baddies in the alley around the corner. Went into the underground car park and fought my way through the large building and reached the top where you have to take out the leader of the rioters. Logged out, only to find when I logged back in I was right back to the beginning of the precinct seige!
I have made several further attempts to no avail. Despite passing numerous checkpoints, every time I restart playing I am at the beginning of the precinct seige. Prior to this part of the game there didn't appear to be any problems.
I was of the understanding that the game should automatically save your progress. Yet it doesn't appear to be.
This is becoming beyond frustration. Am I doing something wrong?

I THINK TO PROGRESS YOU NEED TO ABSAIL OFF THE ROOF AND GO TO THE HELICOPTER LANDING PAD, ITS THE ONLY WAY FORWARD.( sorry for the caps cant be arsed to re type).

This will the cut to a load of cut scenes and you should progress as normal.

Where should I look for the roof/helipad? Is this after the precinct siege section?

It's after you kill the bad guys on the roof of the precinct there is a rope you have to release that you can use to drop down then follow the road through the gate (less than 60 seconds). Then walk forward (there maybe a second gate I cant remember) and it will cut to you trying to get on a chopper....

should be fine from there.
