Guys - I have a PS4 that is rapidly gathering dust and is only used to watch Netflix or play bluRays.

What is the best and/or most realistic racer I can get on it? I haven't played a racer since gran turismo 3 so I'm pretty out of the loop..

Assetto Corsa with a Thrustmaster T300 RS wheel is amazingly good!

Bang on...both are great.

PCars has a great career mode if you mainly offline, some people say they prefer Assetto Corsa FFB, but I don't think there is much in it tbh. Both are a shambles online because most people try to win the race at turn1.

Dirt Rally.

You will need a wheel to play these games to their full potential.

This. Project Cars looks quite good but is pretty miserable with a controller, steering wheels aren't cheap either - I had one on PS3 that cost £50 and worked just fine but logitech screwed everyone over and you now need to pay well in to three figures for one.

I think the Xbox with the Forza games has the playstation licked to be honest. The continuing farce of the gran turismo series is just pathetic. I really don't understand why Sony are so reticent to make a decent driving/racing game.

It's not it that Sony don't want too, I think the Development team are just useless. They're so far behind the curve now it's laughable. How the mighty have fallen ey?!

Dirt Rally is bloody hard to get right...it's a great game but I just can't get it, well unless the objective is to trash the car and kill trees smile I can just about do the rallyx bit of it.

I much prefer circuit racing which is why I would choose Project Cars every time

Not out yet. Games must be specifically coded for VR you just load any game and expect it to work.
The only game I've seen so far to support it is Drive Club, which looks good. No idea how it drives.
I suspect PCars/AC/Dirt won't be far behind though as they support VR on the PC.

Cheers, good to know as I wasn't upto speed with it, knew it had been launched but would only buy for racing sims. I shall be treating myself once they are though, along with a new seat and wheel combo!

Xmas pressie for my 10 year old son *cough* and myself.

I don't think £150 for a G29 is a lot of money.
I remember when it first came out I bought a G25 for nearly £300!

Combine with a Playseat Challenge you have a really decent little racing rig setup for under £300.

Love mine with PCars.
You can play PCars fine without a pad but not as consistently. I managed fine in the Weekly challenge we have on here smile

Regarding Drive Club, good fun game, but defo arcadey rather than full sim. Haven't tried it with the wheel, but was perfectly playable with gamepad.

F1 2016 has got fairly good reviews and what I am going to get next, although I mostly do offline play so the career mode should give plenty to go at smile

Good game and good handling, but the rear view makes it almost impossible to race. On the airbox view (imo) the best for racing as cockpit view is too low, the HUD covers the right hand side mirror meaning you can only see attacks coming from the left hand side. Considering most tracks are anti clockwise this is a major issue

Ah didn't realise that. I prefer the airbox view anyway, but that HUD thing will be difficult to get around. Can you add some sort of mirror at the top of the screen perhaps?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2h-Kycm8Jxo

is the trailer for the latest one. Then this came out and it looks and sounds a bit, well, average

PS4 has been around for what 3 years and they still haven't got their arse in gear - it won't be out until sometime next year. This is after years of delays for GT on the PS3, which when it did appear was mediocre.

Too little, too late. They're done.

They are £180 and a stand to put the thing on is another £100 or so. I think its quite a lot of money for a casual gamer to fork out, only to be shafted again when the next console comes out and have to bin it and start again.

There is no reason why they couldn't make the DFGT work on PS4, they just decided not to.

I paid £140 delivered from Amazon last month. They had a deal on.
Even without needing a playseat, most people have a table or desk they can use (just so happened that I do as well but it would not work with my room layout).

Point is I would class myself as a casual gamer and it wasn't that much money. I enjoy playing racing games. It makes sense to buy something which enhances my experience.

Anyway it's all relative.
