As the sticky hasn't been updated - PS4 or Xbox One S?

I know there's a sticky, but it's a long way out of date. I'm considering getting a console again, having given up my old Xbox 360 several years ago.

Which is currently better? Aside from 4k Blueray on the Xbox which won't bother me as I only have a 32" TV...

They are close enough that it's better to choose based on exclusives, ecosystem and whatever your friends use in my opinion.

I went 360 to PS4 and Forza aside I don't regret my choice.

Choose whichever your friends have, or whichever has the exclusives you want, or which ones UI you prefer, or which controller you prefer.

They're so close that they're pretty much indistinguishable, 4k BR aside. Only difference would be if you wanted to spend a bit more and get the PS4 Pro, or had an interest in picking up PSVR(in which case definitely get the Pro)

PlayStation has 'won' this generation by a fair majority, if owner base at all swings your choice. However for driving games there's nothing exclusive yet that fills the Forza hole.

Ta, I'm not that bothered about exclusives, mostly play mainstream stuff like GTA, Mafia, Just Cause and other similar ways of blowing stuff up. If they're pretty similar in capability I'll probably go back to Microsoft, and pinch my old games back from my father-in-law.

Small form factor PC?

Cheaper games and lots and lots of flexibility. Albeit more expensive.

Choose wisely and it might not be much more expensive - an Intel i3 and Nvidia GTX 750Ti would be on par with an Xbox One/PS4 and might be cheaper depending on if you can reuse existing cases/PSUs etc. A console would be an easier option of course.

I've done the gaming PC a few years ago and found it a world of hassle, I'd much rather stick to having a Mac Mini under the TV for HTPC uses. All else apart it's silent, whereas the NVidea card in my home built PC was hideously loud.

Whilst I can see that an i3 chip might be as powerful as an Xbox, surely the overhead of running Windows is greater than the cut down OS in a console?

I'm not sure exactly HOW cheap these PC games people always suggest (when they state cheaper gaming..) but if you live in the 2nd hand, CEX, Ebay world you can build your console games collection for somewhere between 20 and 50% of the full price easily.

Now that you are late to the generation, there are tonnes of good games at low enough prices.

For me it is PS4 but it's hard to say why, other than Bloodborne :-)
