Not sure if this should be in here or in Computer gadgets but I'll stick it here for now as it's a games console.

So has anyone heard of the Nintendo Switch? This seem seems to have completely passed me by and yet it's out in a few months.

A portable system that can be used as a home console too and it's as powerful as a PS4. Sounds intriguing and I used to be a big Nintendo fan having owned the original NES, the SNES and spending countless hours playing on a mates N64 but they really have gone off the boil for the last decade.

So return to form or another gimmick console? (Wii U I'm looking at you) Surely this is make or break stuff for Nintendo now?

Recently I've been revisiting my GBA, DS, GameCube and wii games with my 6 year old. I'm a self confessed Nintendo fanboi and noticed the new console after looking for the new Zelda.

Looks pretty good to me and the only console I've considered at launch since I nagged my parents for an n64.

Best gaming moments of the last 15 years have all been on Nintendo still.

Don't get me wrong I have enjoyed the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and One etc. But for me the best games have still been Nintendo.

The Gamecube, the Wii, the Wii U, 3DS has had some peach games.

I think with Nintendo you have had to have an Xbox or PS4 as well as they lost their stride a bit hardware wise in regars to specs, but their games are still the most fun imho.

Can't wait for the new Switch. Mario at launch and then Zelda a couple of months after. Perfect.

Wii U.

Super Mario 3D world - 9/10
Pikmin 3 - 8/10
Mario Kart 8 - 9/10
Zelda Wind Waker HD - 9/10
Rayman Legends - 8/10
Bayonetta 2 - 8/10
Super Mario Make 9/10
Zelda Twilight Princess HD - 9/10
Yoshis Wooly World - 8/10
Splatoon - 9/10
Xenonblade Chronicles X - 9/10
New Super Mario Bros. U - 9/10
Super Smash Brothers - 8/10
Donkey Kong Country - 8/10

There is a dozen of so games that rival anything for gaming pleasure out there.

How many games do most people buy for each console?

15-20?

There are others, but those are the ones I would rate as 8 or 9s out of 10.

I love Nintendo games and they have made some absolute gems but a lot of those games listed are very similar-ish. If you don't like cutesy Mario or Zelda-esque games it's pretty slim pickings. As you said the Nintendo is a console that you have alongside your Xbox\PS4, rather than on it's own. I'm not really a mobile gamer either but I will be intrigued to see what they do with the switch idea.

At least some Nintendo fans have come out of the woodwork though, I thought I was alone when I first started this thread. thumbup

Back in the days of the NES and SNES you could easily just have a Nintendo console, all the best games were on it.

I think Nintendo should either get back to being the most powerful console again or should just be a software house.

I would much prefer to play Mario, Zelda etc. on a PS4 than I would the Wii U, plus I think they would get more people into Nintendo games again, I reckon there is a generation who just think it is for kids and are really missing out on some of the best games you can play.

Oh yes, had both a NES and SNES back in the day, apart from Sega they were really the only game in town. Weird how they lost so much ground so quickly to Sony and then MS.

I don't think they are big enough now to compete on a hardware level, it takes serious financial clout to make a powerful console and then sell it at a reasonable price. I think Sony and MS make little if any money on the consoles themselves, not sure if Nintendo could afford to do that really. Given that I'd also prefer to see Nintendo go all software. If they made games for the PS or Xbox, they would clean up IMO.
