So following on from my previous thread anyone had a genuine shocking moment whilst playing a game, I got pretty freaked out in alien isolation when the alien dropped down for the first time!!

The opening 10 minutes of Last of Us is pretty gut-punching especially if you've never heard what happens. Also remember playing The Darkness where your character's girlfriend gets murdered right in front of you whilst you can't do anything - that genuinely left me open-mouthed.

I need to play The Last of Us, it's just sitting on my shelf!

Mine was the Trevor bit in GTA5 when he tortures that guy, it was just abit too realistic especially with the tooth extraction

One that springs to mind is GTA 4, when Niko's girlfriend (Michelle?) turns out to be a government informant.

"“Egad! My baby!! Have you seen my baby??? She's the most precious baby in the whole wide world. (They say she has my beak)...I just can´t remember where I left her. Let´s see...I stopped for herring and ice cubes, then I...oohh! I just don´t know!”"

Hard hitting stuff, even though im not a parent myself.

Red dead redemption.

When you leave the barn to face the goverment bloke, I was expecting a big shootout but to eventually win - nope! Seeing your character get shot to bits after playing him for so long was a big shock

Yeah that bit made me wonder about carrying on. Glad I did, but it was a bit OTT I thought.
The T-rex in Tomb Raider was shocking in a good way, first time a game had such a big 3d monster.
The flood in the first Halo was a good surprise as well.
The intro you play through on BF1 was not shocking perhaps, but certainly poignant.

Not shocking per se but I remember my first nullsec solo fight against a similar ship in EVE Online. It lasted about three minutes but it was so intense and my heart was absolutely hammering away. I lost, but it was full on and a learning curve in line with everything else in that game.

Loading up No Man's Sky and seeing how stuttery it was. What a waste of time that was.

As above it's got to be the ending of the main story of Red Dead Redemption.

World of Warcraft quest, Pamela's Doll... Someone was cutting onions.

"My auntie Marlene told me to stay here in our house because my father had to go and fight. My father's the bravest man in the whole world!

But I've been here for a long time, and he hasn't come for me. Sometimes bad people come and whisper to me and I want my dad to make them go away, but he's not here!

And sometimes when it gets dark I want to play with my doll but I can't because I left it in town.

Will you find my doll for me?"

The child is a ghost. The houses are rubble. IIRC you speak to the still alive father of Pamela later in the quest chain...

Sometimes it's odd how such a judged genre can put in something so powerful, there are similar quests in FFXI which is the one I played smile
