Has anyone else played this? It is a graphic and mode update for the original Deus Ex. I've just finished my first playthru and simply can't say enough about this mod. I had started typing out a review but it turned into a fanboi gush-fest, so I've slimmed it down to the following:

  • Revision introduces a raft of game modifiers, modes and graphic updates whilst retaining the basic architecture of the original
  • Graphics-wise, all maps have been overhauled to flesh them out (compared to the rather barren original); for example Battery Park actually feels like a park, NYC and Hong Kong have neon billboards, high-res graphics (i.e. computers, adverts, pictures etc) and the IT lab in UNATCO no really does look like a high tech computer lab!
  • Some maps have been completely redesigned or expanded; the NYC and HK maps are twice the size of the originals, with new areas to explore, secrets, buildings etc. I won't spill on UNATCO but I was truly surprised
  • Character modelling has been overhauled/given high-res treatment, as well as overhaul for weapons and items
  • Dynamic lighting introduced
  • Mod wise, there are several options available when starting a game to make it more challenging, i.e. halving your inventory space, turning the ability to augment yourself off, make enemies invisible and/or more volatile and many more
  • Also have several game modes to make you approach the game differently.
If you already have the GOTY edition of DX on Steam then the mod is free to download and install. You don't have to use the modifiers if you want to, however everything I've seen really did enhance the game, in some places to the point where it felt like I was playing it again for the first time.

As you can probably tell, I would seriously recommend it! It brings the original up to date and, IMO, makes it the game it was supposed to be all along.

Yep I enjoyed it. Got lost a few times on the open city levels as the layouts are different. I also changed the music back to classic DX as it's not the same without it.

Really want to play it now again, thanks for that biggrin

Depending on when you last played it, it might have been updated further as there was a major release at the start of December - a lot more models (all weapons and inventory items) were overhauled.

I quite liked the new music; loved the original but I felt the update did a good job music-wise.

New laptop arriving on santas sleigh, first time I've had a PC for a while. This might just be the first thing downloaded on to it.

Still the first game I think of when anyone asks about favourite games.

Have just finished Makind Divided, so I may try this, but thanks for the warning about the music; Deus Ex would not be Deus Ex without that music.

I'd love to repeat the feeling of playing Deus Ex for the first time. It was special.

Good thing is you can switch between the original and remastered score whilst playing the game if you want to experience both.

The game modifiers (options you are allowed to choose at the start of the game) really encourage repeat playthroughs, although once selected and started playing, there is no changing them. There is also a 'New Game +' option now where you can restart after completing a playthrough with all equipment, augs and skills intact.
