Bought one for my Son for Xmas, because as I was wisely told here - it's the one his friends have.

Spoke to a few other people who bought them last Xmas "Make sure you set it up before you wrap it, it's a big download to start the console and most games will want a patch too".

So I've done just that.

My word it's slow to download, I know it's 'only' a console, but It's downloading at between 4Mbps and 20Mbps according to it's screen, it's connected to a 300Mbps connection via CAT5e - is this normal?

Consoles aren't known for their lightning download speeds unfortunately, this is one of the reasons the PS4 (Maybe xbones can too) has a "rest mode" where it's off but will still download updates.

Have this all the time, get 200Mbps on my phone wireless but can never manage more the 40Mbps wired on the Xbox.

Took me over 7 hours to install Final Fantasy 15!

At a guess it's because of the number of other people downloading the same files, awful when you buy older games, I can't imagine how long it would take to update something like GTA5 on a brand new xbox.

Should get quicker once it's running the latest OS as they have included some updates in the last 2 releases specifically for this...

Thanks, seems I might have been a bit hasty, it's not mega fast, but it seems the disc install (Forza Horizon 3) was far slower than the patch. It's still not rapid mind.

Yeah you start the download(s) and go to bed.

My kids xboxes are all set up to automatically download updates. That way it just goes on in the background all the time.

You have to download the games on xmas eve if you want to play them on Christmas Day. hehe

Are you on BT?

There was a post on Reddit a while back about BT Smart Hub strangling download speed on the One S. My Day One Xbox One was hitting 25-30mpbs (on an "up to" 75mps connection) consistently, the One S was initially around 3-10!
