Steel Division Normandy 44
Discussion
Have to give this game a recommendation to anyone who enjoyed the Wargame series. This has all the detail and large scale that is expected of Eugen Systems but with a little more focus around ground troops than could be given to a coldwar turned hot scenario.
All in all it's punishing even against AI, the maps are gigantic and pretty much graphically realised versions of aerial photography from the time. I am a fan of their previous work and nothing was more cool than seeing the skittish weave of a wire guided missle on the way to target or epic miss like in the Wargame series, however, theres something wonderful to this game, with the chatter of various machine guns and the frightening/reasuring sound of German rocket batteries.
There is one issue, it is minor, the use of lines from Band of Brothers is tedious, yes i know it was a HBO series based on real people and real events, but it does take a little bit out of it somehow by having airborne units constantly parroting "We're airborne, we're supposed to be surrounded" or some such.
Anyhow, i showed up late to the party having missed the beta, but having not seen another thread on this i thought i'd give it a recommendation to any strategy nuts on here looking for something a bit bigger than company of heros.
