Looks good. Seems that the story will play a larger part in the way the game plays.

With NFS 2015 you could ignore the cutscenes and each 'mission' was just a race. Whereas with payback it seems there may actually be objectives other than just beating everyone.

Step in the right direction for NFS, the series has been dead since carbon IMO, they've strayed too far from the concept that made underground and most wanted so popular.

In saying that, I did actually enjoy 'The Run' however the structured way the game played meant it could be completed in a day and you couldn't do anything other than replay the missions.

Everything about nfs 15 was fine, not perfect but okay. The customisation was great etc, all fine until you go to drive the cars. The physics were horrendous it would slide when you didn't want it to, crash into anything it could at random and 'rubber band' all the time. Such a shame as I didn't mind the nighttime only or always online that many people moaned about.
Please make the latest need for speed drive something like realistic with no stupid drift/grip settings.

No chance, sadly. This will be arcade racer through and through.

It's like there's a disconnect in the gaming world - take for example Call of Duty - the idea is that this is an 18+ FPS, but the reality is that it is styled and marketed towards 10 year-olds. The opposite is true of Need for Speed - it is styled to appeal to an older generation but the gameplay is so accessible / unrealistic that a 10 year old won't get bored.

Bonkers, but sadly money talks and the bigger the audience, the bigger the income.

6 month old thread but seems the most relevant!

Has anyone purchased NFS: Payback? What did you think, did it live up to the big build up it got?

From my point of view, having played NFS 2015 as well, it's a big improvement but it's gone backwards in other areas. Most notably the upgrade for cars with "Speed Cards" - it's crap...

I got a bit addicted to it however, I've completed the story and I'm now just driving around trying to complete the other smaller events (jumps, speed traps etc) and doing the same circuit race over and over again to get money to buy new cars...rinse and repeat...

Got it, it is a bit repetitive, still has the card things, but good to pick up for an hour to blast, oh and you have to find car parts as well

pros, brainless fun, chases are quite good

Cons, cars cant change ie from sports to drag, the card system (just an encouragement to buy them from ea)

Had at xmas played 3/4 times so woul wait until on sale to be honest
