Simple question really. I'm thinking along the lines of the following. A straight port would be amazing onto the iPad.

Theme Park
Command and Conquer
Cannon Fodder
Lemmings
Civilisation
Dune
Prince of Persia

Only couple I have found were the Monkey Island series ( Now not available)

Final Fantasy games are appearing on there as well as some of the old Sega stuff.

I thought the same thing, most of these are strategy or point and click, both genres that should be completely perfect on a tablet.

The conclusion I came too is both take too long and too much attention to have as a casual game for a tablet (I assume they're mostly casual games)

I keep thinking that I had command and conquer on my old iPad but it must have been a knock off.

Would be perfect for it.

If Lemmings and Conon Fodder were available for ipad, i'd buy them tomorrow. Hell, I may even upgrade to a pro!

Command and Conquer, what a game! Between that and Red Alert I could lose days, I could spend all day building my base before even considering anything else. I remember spending hours building miles of fence line to get my Pill Boxes in exactly the right place.

They need to do an re-release / updated game for the modern consoles. I'd buy it tomorrow.

Ever tried Halo Wars? Much the same idea, but whereas playing the original C&C on a console with a controller would be frustrating, Halo Wars was designed to be played with a controller from the ground up, so base building, controlling units and so on was fairly intuitive. Ultimately it wasn't as good as C&C, but was a good game nonetheless.

I always wonder why tablet games are all so gash. It's a variation on match3, games visibly designed to frustrate the hell out of you unless yoiu pay a lot of money for energy / pixel trinkets, or games that dictate when yoiu play (always too much) if you want to get on.

I'd happily pay proper money for c+c, total annihilation, theme hospital, sim city, syndicate wars, etc etc if they were ported. So many good strategy games would work well on a touch screen.

Pretty sure a some of those ports did get done in the early iPad frenzy. Probably about time for them to get redone for modern iPad hardware though.

C&C Red Alert was, Theme Park was, Prince of Persia was. There's a couple of Civilization Revolution games too.

Some properties did seem to get acquired by mobile studios to make ports of, but never happened for whatever reason. Lemmings apparently did get started ahead of getting the rights sorted out and got a cease & desist for their troubles.

I like iPad strategy stuff, but the board game ports tend to work better for touch than the heavier RTS ones that have mouse controls that don't translate so well.

Glad to see I wasn’t going mad! I wonder why it no longer exists. Another fun game was emergency which got ported but never updated.

I had command and conquer, it was a scaled back version if I remember correctly.

Age of empires would be great.

I would think they would be good earners and wouldn't take much to redo.

Absolutely.

However, I think the iPad means more developer type people can knock up some simple game and rip people off with in app purchases.

XCOM is quite good on the iPad.

The pay to play thing is a annoying as well. I want to pay £5/£10 and have complete access. Developers don't want that (EA are main culprit) they want the players paying weekly/monthly.

It is not just games. I bought a satnav app, really is dire and the live traffic is annual fee. Want a walking sports or cycling thing? Annual fee for anything that is useful.

I will buy a decent game full price, Xcom, Rome Total war etc. but they are thin on the ground.
