Budget projector
Discussion
Thinking of getting a projector to use with my Xbox one and steering wheel for project cars. I've seen plenty of fairly cheap projectors claiming to support full hd but it is a bit of a minefield. I'm strictly at the budget end of things so any more than a couple of hundred quid and I'll stick with my tv. Any suggestions?
I looked at this a while ago and the items are still in my wish list...you might get projector and screen to squeeze under £200 but you'll need a sound bar too.
The high lumens ones are what you want. This is the one I was going for...

Not bothering now as I've gone for the Oculus Rift...

Thanks for that. I was hoping the new Xbox would have vr support from day 1 but it's looking like I'll have to wait. The projector idea came to me today as an alternative to changing my tv.
I looked because we have a gaming room that could double as a home cinema as well as using my rig in front of it for racing in BIIIIGGG screen mode, and at the time VR was a very expensive option...I still like the idea of home cinema but it's a nice to have and maybe later now.If you get it setup please leave a review here
I know my kids would love to play games on a 77" projector screen lolzWhen they say 'support HD' they mean they can take an HD input. That certainly won't mean you'll an HD picture. You might get a 1200x800 picture out of one.
I was looking into getting one when my proper projector died. I'm not too fussed about resolutions in general but in the end I got a second hand Optoma HD20 for £130 instead.

I switched from using a full HD projector (72" screen) to a 65" TV in November, and haven't got around to advertising the projector and screen for sale yet - but do need to get rid of them (especially since the projector is still actually fixed to my ceiling!).
It's an Epson EH-TW3200 LCD projector, full HD - lamp has 753 hours on it. And a (cheap) electric screen with a 72" (diagonal) viewing area. Screen isn't perfect - the edges curl in slightly (about 5cm from the edge, some of which is border) but it's not bad.
If you're anywhere near Camberley / Surrey feel free to PM me if you fancy a look - a "couple of hundred" - i.e. £200 is too low, but we may be able to reach an agreement a bit higher.

I'd definitely avoid the cheap ones on Amazon for gaming purposes, something like davek964 is offering would be much better.
I use a Benq W1070 with a 92" screen mainly, for films but occasional Project Cars on the PC. It is gaming that tends to show up the slight lack of sharpness compared to a TV more tha films. It is Impossble to get around this of course, I have the same 1920x1080 pixels covering an area four times the size of a 46" TV and the image is great when you take that into consideration.
Large size screens are really going to benefit when 4K becomes affordable, but until then I wouldn't drop below 1080p.
