I know its outdated but I have an autistic son who, by his nature, wants to play his games on PS1. He won't entertain upgrades to other consoles and wants to play his PS1.

The original broke and we got him a second hand one which has now also given up.

I'll try and get another second hand one but does anyone repair them?

Ta.

Depends what the damage is; they are quite simple (mechanically) and there are tons of DIY videos on youtube - might be worth checking and see if you can do it yourself.

any option is an emulator on another system, like android still use the old controller and keep the old ps1, should work.

Seems to be a disc reading issue. Spins and clunks a bit and some discs seem to try and slowly load. Don't complete though.

Will have a look on Youtube.

I think one of the main issues with these is the laser failing, it was certainly the demise of the two PS1's I had.

Try turning the console upside down while it's loading.

Don't the fat PS2s have backwards compatibility with PS1 games? Might give you more options for finding a working console... I have a feeling there was an issue with slim PS2s and backwards compatibility but one of the thicker ones might do the job.

There are loads of them for sale on Ebay cheap as chips, why not buy a few and keep them in stock for the future?

This, sounds daft, but it works.

Do you mean the original or the PSOne (i.e. one of these)?

Because if it's the latter I think I have a spare one knocking around he could have.

You mean the fat PS3.

But yes, the fat PS3 can play PS1 and PS2 games. I thought it did from memory but looking it up and it does seem to be the case.

Update.

Sent off for a laser head from Bay of E. Came from Hong Kong for £12.

Fitted tonight and Whoo Hoo! One Happy boy!

Youngest son advised that as you say the early PS3 has backward compatability so I have bought one of those for a back up. Will happily give a good home to anyone who wants rid of their PS1 (Not PS One as above - Says "Plastation" where the "One" is).

Thanks for the advice and suggestions all. Appreciated. I am finding more and more helpful vids on You tube for car stuff and all sorts.

Scotty2.

PS2 in general can play 99% of PS1 games. You just need a memory card. https://www.gamespot.com/forums/games-discussion-1...

Some early fat PS3 had PS2 hardware built in. Due to having the PS2 hardware built in they can play PS2 games and 99% of PS1 games.

Either way, a cheap PS2 should do the trick or a cheap replacement PS1. Gumtree is your friend IMO.
