I5-7400
ASUS Prime H270-PRO Motherboard
2TB HDD
128GB SSD
Nvidea GTX 1070
16GB DDR4

It is a prebuilt.

I know the CPU is a bit of a weakpoint but will it hold up for the next generation of PC games heading out later this year and maybe onwards?

Also I can pick this up for £918 brand new with 3 years warranty, bargain or no? type

CPU is hardly a weakpoint, for gaming an i5 is ok

In terms of bargain it depends on what components are there to make the price. By that i mean the cpu cooler can be cheap, RAM can be a generic brand and cheaper, SSD and GPU brand and case etc. This is why it is a 'bargain' shall we say, a good quality build from a place like pc specialist/overclockers/scan will cost more as they will use good quality components throughout

If this doesn't bother you then the price is reasonable

GPU's are generally the bottleneck these days as they age faster than CPU's. Fortunately they're easy to replace.

The GF 1070 should be good for at least 2 years. I've got a GF 970 in a similar i5 rig built 18 months ago, nothing has come close to stressing it.

The SSD would be good for the OS only, if you want one for games, get a second, bigger SSD.

Thanks for the input.

I've also been looking at RX580 8GB builds because I bought a new monitor not that long ago for my console, it also has Freesync 40hz-75hz.

All the prebuild's I have seen with it are more expensive than 1070's though even though the 580 is a cheaper card isn't it?

Also is 16gb ram a must now or is 8 still fine? The only game I have seen where it actually recommends a minimum or 16 is BF1.

Should be perfect for everything in 1080p and also manage VR very well.

I run an i5 6600k @4.3 an EVGA 980 SC and 16g DDR4. Games havent tested my system yet. I run 1920 x 1080, 5760 x 1080 (for racing games) and Oculus Rift as well.

Stick with the GF1070, it's a much better gaming card than the RX580, which is just an older RX480 with slightly bumped clock speeds.

40hz-70hz isn't officially a large enough window to qualify as Freesync, it's just generic adaptive sync (unless AMD has relaxed their requirements for certification). The extra grunt of the 1070 will allow it to push a constant 70fps in games where the 580 will be fluctuating but working well in the freesync range, So the 1070- would offer the better experience even without FreeSync. I used to have an RX480 and I have a freesync monitor, but the 1070 is much faster so the Freesync advantage of the 480 is mute.

I ended up picking up a prebuilt for £1,080.

I5-8400
GTX 1070TI
8GB 2400 RAM
128 SSD
1TB HDD

Just got a G-Sync monitor to buy now.. Either a 24" 1080P 240hz one or 27" 1440P 165hz one, pretty big price difference though £329/£559.

Everything says 1070 is worth buying a 1440p but I'll be able to push higher frames for longer on a 1080p so still not sure yet. rolleyes

You might need to upgrade the local ssd. It's amazing how much junk gets installed to c: even though you specify the d: drive.

Yea it was a bit trial and error trying to sort it out because I didn't really know what I was doing. biggrin

I reset it all and started again and I think I've redirected everything properly now.

Ideally I wanted 16GB ram as well, but I can't complain for the price, a Scan 3XS system that's pretty much the same is £1550, I'll just upgrade as I need to in the future.
