So the PS4 remake of this was free on PSN+ last month and I'm just trying it now.

It's unimagineably awful in every conceivable way.

I thought this was hailed as being a great story based game when it came out? What were people on? I don't know how anyone can like this.

The controls are awful. The animation makes everyone look like they are pod people trying to act how they think humans act. The voice acting is atrocious, although to be fair the actors hardly had anything to work with...

Which brings us onto the writing. I can't believe anyone ever said anything positive about it. It all just sounds like something that I would expect to see on /r/im14andthisisdeep

I can kinda understand a 14 year old liking this, but for a grown up reviewer to think Heavy Rain is anything other than complete trash then I would start to doubt if they've ever been exposed to writing better than Eastenders. It's embarrasing, I can feel myself wanting to fold inside out due to the cringe factor "playing" Heavy Rain. And it's all just so obviously manipulative as well.

It makes the writing in things like Uncharted look good and that's saying something!

Played it years ago and loved it. Good plot and was really interested in finding out the conclusion.

And I haven't been 14 for decades.

I thought it was pretty good at the time, for the type of game it was. But I think video game story telling has moved on a lot since it's release in 2010. For instance the Tomb Raider reboot or The Last Of Us,

Until Dawn is somewhat similar style of gameplay and I thought a lot better (and much more recent, again).

Firstly, thanks OP for flagging that this is free on PSN+. It's still available now if anyone else is interested (27GB download). I've just started downloading it.

I remember the hype around the game when it was launched and never got to play it so i'll be interested to see what it's like. At a guess i imagine I'll find it similar to the OP in as much as I'm not generally one for old games and the complaints around basic scripting sound like one of my own preferred rants.

Will report back in due course....

Downloaded and playing through again, as a PS3 title it was a good one, and for its time one of the first story telling games there. The same guys are behind Beyond:Two Souls and Detroit:Become Human and the latter will show what kind of advances have happened since HR.

TellTale have done some great story telling games as has the Life is Strange guys and Until Dawn, all of which have created a very nice gaming genre.

Also thought this was excellent on PS3, and thanks for the head's up on the free version might give it another go tongue out (and I'm 55 not 14)

It was a marmite game even at launch, I loved it at the time and I started playing through it again a few weeks ago and I still love it. Its not without its flaws but I enjoy that style of game.

Beyond Two Souls I really enjoyed as well but that wasn't particularly well executed either.
