Per the title please

I don’t care about whether teams as players are up to date.
I don’t care if it’s the latest 2018 version - I much prefer to buy an older game, 2nd for a fiver than £40-50 new.
Don’t care about online

I just want a game that’s fun and intuitive to control for a game with some mates

lol there are only 2 FIFA and PES
Just buy the one for the price you want to pay.
If you are only mucking around and dont care about the names either will do.

I know nothing!

Read reviews of FIFA 2018 and everyone was slagging it off, one example from Amazon:

“Absolute Crap, don't waste your money, FIFA 17 was much better.
Fifa18 is so unresponsive, its no fun to play at all.
Unfortunately you can no longer get the latest squads in FIFA17.
I guess that's how EA Sports make their money. Don't think I'll be buying FIFA again.”

Now I appreciate this could some snottty 13 year old but “so unresponsive” highlights my concern exactly - as I don’t care at all about latest players am I better buying FIFA 2017?

That will be people that live and breathe FIFA who literally just think a move and do it on screen.
For mere mortals you wont notice. Plus I'm sure 18 has the new Live functionality where you can play games actually as they happen in the season, adds an element of realism.

Pretty sure there is demos for each one on the store, download both, play both and see what one you prefer (gameplay, menus and whatnot) and then buy an older one from CEX for about £5?

Ok thanks all - if those are comments from game nerds rather than sad gaming Dads who should know better (moi!) then I’ll just look for a cheap second hand fifa 17 or 18

Will look at CEX too, just used ebay up till now
