Laptop gamers, which of these is preferable? Bear in mind I’m not a hardcore gamer.

Initially just want something to play World Of Warships at max settings.

Intel i5 8300H with a 1060 Max Q

or

Intel i7 7700HQ or i7 8750H with a 1050ti

Which 1060 graphics card is it? There’s a 3GB and a 6GB.
The 1050Ti is a 4GB card.
I think that i5 processor is the new one.

Both systems will work fine for what you want and are about the same performance wise I would think.

All the 1060 Max Q appear to be 6gb from what I've researched.

1060 6GB will give far better results than 1050ti and would be my choice.
