updating games from physical to digital (Xbox)
Discussion
I'm not looking to replace all my games only the ones I'm playing a LOT
For example, I have Forza 7 on disc, but want to have it digital so I don't need to keep swapping discs out.
Is it as straight forward as punching in the digital code for it and away I go? no longer need to use the disc?
I'm then free to sell the disc copy?

So, you already own the disc, you want to buy the game again digitally and sell the physical copy?
You're free to. I don't understand why you would want to though, seems an expensive way to save the trip from the sofa.
correct, and thank you for clearing it up for me.You're free to. I don't understand why you would want to though, seems an expensive way to save the trip from the sofa.
The only current games I own that i'll be replacing with digital are Forza 7 and Horizon 4. I have red dead redemption on digital pre-order and BLOPS4 I have on digital already so moving forwards i'll be buying digital only now I'm on decent broadband
again thanks for clearing my query up

Physical copies have a second hand value, and digital doesn't. Continuing to buy physical is better in the long run.
This is only better if you buy lots of games to try and only play them 6 months or so.If you stick with a game and play it to death, digital makes more sense. As by the time you are finished with it, no one wants to buy it anyway.
And not sticking in discs is more convenient. Or like my friend, the disc mechanism wears out and he has to tip up his xbox every time he wants to load a disc.

It's not as simple as that. If you gameshare with someone with similar interests in games as you then you can split the cost between you, but it only works with digital purchases. So what you're really weighing up is if you're going to get half the cost back when you sell on a physical copy second hand.
Which really comes down to if you buy the latest games (which are expensive and drop in value quicker) or if you buy stuff as and when it's on offer.
There's a few other things you could consider too like the stress on the machine (running from disk vs hard drive) and if gamesharing will always work (I've been doing it for a few years).

I've not traded or sold a game in years. If you stick with a game and play it to death, digital makes more sense. As by the time you are finished with it, no one wants to buy it anyway.

Is removing and inserting a disc really that difficult? people really are getting lazy these days.
When you buy digital you are not buying a physical item with value that you can then trade in or sell later down the line. I know you may think "i never sell my games, it doesn't matter", but it is good to have that potential value to release should anything happen. With Digital you are buying, at full price, a licence to lease the game for as long as the server hosts it. Once the publisher's licence with the console manufacturer expires the game is removed and no longer available for download. If you delete it you can never play it again and you have lost that money.
I always buy physical where possible and because my tastes are mostly niche games, most of my games are still worth their original retail price. I even have some games that are now worth £300+
Of course this doesn't apply to annual "Shovelware" releases like fifa, Cod and Asscreed (not shovelware in quality..... but so common they have no resale or replay value in a couple of years time).

No need to apologize. Tongue was firmly in cheek and no personal offence intended.lol
sorry dude
Personally the physical media market is not something I am enjoying the decline of and I don't want to support the movement to digital as our rights to the media erode with it
