IRacing triple monitor & setup recommendation
Discussion
I have a Obutto Revolution cockpit, G27 and a Rift. My GPU is a 1080. Previously I’ve just been hot-lapping in Assetto Corsa and iRacing using the Rift but I’ve recently started racing.
I qualify around 4th on the grid and that puts me in traffic. I expected the Rift to be really good but I now realise that I lack the peripheral vision and struggle to place the other drivers.
Unless there are tips for the Rift then I think I’m going to have to change to triple monitors.
I have a 27” 144Hz 1440p monitor as my main PC screen and another two of those would set my back £1200 and I’m reluctant to spend that sort of money.
I’m aware that, as standard, I can’t mix resolutions and refresh rates so adding two 1080p screens will downgrade the main screen.
I guess the question is, do I get:
3x 27” 1080p screens @ 60hz
3x 27” 1080p screens with G sync
3x 27” 1440p screens @ 60hz
2x additional 1440p @ 144hz
I’m keen to hear thoughts if you’ve got experience of this. Ta

I only race in iracing and now have a triple 55” curved TV set up. It is so much better than the single screen, when racing you get a much better perception of what is around you. As you say being able to use the mirrors is a bonus. One of the big advantages I found was being able see further around the corners as you would in real life.

I expected that to be the case but I find that the mirrors and stuff beside me are out of my peripheral vision
What are you racing? I'll assume a tin top as mirrors are fairly visible on the open wheelers.Regardless, just turn your head. Might just take a bit of getting used to. is your sound set correctly.
Peripheral vision is also something you can train and improve. I think some coaches use the reaction lights machine to help improve this.
I rarely 'look' for cars as if I can see them alongside, they are actually ahead of me. If I can only hear them, I'm usually ahead and take the line. There is a great aftermarket spotter I use, Crew Chief I think. It is on the iRacing forums. It is FANTASTIC.
If you are keen on changing to monitors I do have some basic ones for sale so you can try it out, though maybe too small for you at 22"

That would be superb. Are TVs ok? Do you get lag or anything like that?
Is 1080p ok or are they 4K screens?

It’s early in my iRacing career so I’m concentrating on the MX5, which is what I compete with in real life (albeit only sprinting).Regardless, just turn your head. Might just take a bit of getting used to. is your sound set correctly.

The rift has a very narrow POV so seeing things out the of the corner of your eye is tricky.
I’ll read up on setting up the sound, maybe there’s a tweak that I can make to be able to hear the other cars better. Thansj
Don't forget to checkout the Crew Chief. It is very useful. I use it for every session practice or race.
Bit of a fanny about setting up but once it's done it's easy to use and best of all free.
Certainly a help when you move up series and have enforced pit stops/fueling to think about.
