Anyone giving Metro Exodus a go?

I had both the previous games in the Redux compilation on PS4. Finished the first one 2033 about a year ago and played through Last Light over the last week so I am ready to try Exodus.

Game on PC and PS4 but on the basis it isn't multiplayer I am happy to play it with a controller so bought the Aurora version when I spotted it a day or two after launch in CEX.

Anyone else played it or considering it?

I've been playing it this week, I think it's really good so far. It's by no means a groundbreaking game, it's still the same style of shooter that the previous games were, but this time you're in more open world areas with several things to do in each. It's split into several different locations, and I'm on the second main area so far, and each is linked with an interlude where you can wander about on your train and speak to the characters on there to get more backstory.

I can't say now I think it's very good. In fact, I've given up on it.

Finished this and wouldn't recommend it.

loads of lock-ups, requiring a restart of the game (xbox one x)
really long load time, even using an external ssd drive
sluggish pace. Have to use a rowing boat on several occasions and it's painfully slow to move forward.
Stealth seems pointless, bodies can't be moved so they always raise the alarm upon discovery.
baddies are pretty much all the same, spouting the same lines.
cutscenes are frequent and go on forever, the talking never ends!
Not much difficulty. played all the way through on normal and the only tough bits were a few npc's in heavy armour who needed a couple of molotovs to dispatch.
Virtually everything needs a long press of the X button: open a crate, long press, open a door, long press, climb a ladder, long press etc.
The graphics are good and some of the shootouts are fun but it's not enough.

Luke.

Interesting. What did you make of 2033?

Never played it!
i did get a free code with exodus for it so should give it a go. Apparently the other Metro games are far superior from what i have read.

Played 2033 and enjoyed it. Stealthing around fighting on hard mode.

Took a break of maybe a year and played Last Light, finishing a few weeks ago, again enjoyed it.

Sounds like Exodus isn't going to live up to expectations.

I'm getting further into this now and it feels like the game is opening up a bit. My god, it is boring.

The gameplay is awful. Slow movement, clunky controls and clumsy gunplay. Very little challenge, no need to use stealth as you can just shoot your way through every encounter if need be. The ratio of gameplay to standing round and listening to people talk is terrible. It's more like a first person film, and just like movie, it's something you sit and watch and don't really interact with.

Safe to say it's off to a pretty crap start.

I found the biggest problem was I was just wandering round wondering where I'm supposed to go next. And yes, lots of cut scenes (reminds me of Max Payne 3). I've never bothered to fire it up in the last 6 weeks - 40 odd quid down the stter. Oh well..

I got this for free when I upgraded my GPU.

For the graphics alone, if you have an RTX card, it's possibly worth a look. It is gobsmackingly beautiful at times. Think it's the first game where I've genuinely just sat and looked around to take it all in.

The cutscenes/dialogue ruin it though, completely, as does some of the clunky mechanics around jumping/climbing etc. The dialogue is hopelessly awkward (possibly down to translation), whilst the storyline is joyless and depressing. Occasional attempts at bonhomie with comrades don't work to lift the mood, and it only gets worse towards the end of the game. I came close to giving up on the final level as I couldn't find any good reason to carry on - other than to say I'd finished it.

Speaking of which, if you didn't already know, there are two possible endings. Referring to previous poster, if you do go around just shooting your way through trouble (as I did), you get the "bad" ending. If you manage to stealth it up a bit you can get the "good" ending. Will I replay to get it? Will I heck.

Beautiful as it was, as soon I finished it I uninstalled.

I used it as an reason (excuse ?) to upgrade my GPU to an RTX.

I ended up with 4 free games because first of all I upgraded my GTX970 to a RX590 and then discovered that was a total waste of time and money since it was pretty much the same thing. That came with The Division 2, Devil May Cry 5 and Resident Evil 2, which I found all equally crap. So that card went back and I bought an RTX2060 instead, but since I'd already got to the game codes I just kept those. Then my RTX2060 came with Battlefield V, which is equally crap.

So 4 "free" games - all ste. No wonder they have to give them away !

Well I really enjoyed it but then I also enjoyed the previous Metro games. You can avoid most of the cut scenes if you really want to but I didn't want to. If you're looking for a game that is just about shooting everything in sight then it isn't the right game and I can well understand why you wouldn't like it.

It doesn't have to be all action, all the time. Exploration can be fun, except it isn't in this game. The movement is so clunky and there's fk all to see.

I agree with people saying the game is good looking, graphically at least, but it's also really, really ugly. Everything you see is a a rusty, muddy, dark, wet sthole. It is just ugly, but it stunningly rendered.

I'd happily not just shoot everything, but the stealth mechanics are a bit flawed when you can't move bodies out of the way.

There's one level where I was supposed to not kill a bunch of jungle dwellers, but as far as I could see there was a single guarded entrance and as soon as you got near they spotted and started shooting.

You can't compare it to the likes of RE2 or Max Payne (one of my favourite shooters, ever). Endless dialogue got in the way of playing , in say - Metal Gear Solid?

And this is hardly a fast paced Call of Duty clone. Plenty of action remains...

Could have sold it on, Shirley?! No sense in it collecting dust, if not your type of a game etc.

I bought it from Epic Games so it's not possible to resell it, is it ? I know you can have a refund like you can on Steam, but only if you've played it for less than 2 hours, and I played it for more than that before giving up.

Apologies, I assumed you had a physical disc.
