Almost bought one from Argos earlier, but couldn't quite do it as I've terrible habit of impulse buying and shiny new toy syndrome only to never be used again after day two. My DJI drone is a case in point.

So... anyone got one, does stand up to long term use, did it last two mins, should I buy the thing?

I’ve got one for work research requirements......

It’s an amazing bit of kit. Having previously used PSVR, Oc Rift etc the lack of cables of any sort, and the lack of need to be near a PC are amazing. It’s ridiculous you can play in the garden. The setting up of the guardian area is brilliant. By far the most immersive VR thing I’ve done because of those factors.

But...........It’s very solitary as a gaming thing and really does take you away from anything else. I tend to find I game far more now on the iPad because they’re the sort of things I can do whilst also watching tv and chatting. If mates come over then console still the right sort of experience for that. This feels much more like an experience than actually gaming and as a result I’ve actually genuinely used it more for work than playing.

But oh my god it’s impressive. You could literally waste 50 hours just doing the various YouTube VR experiences. The edge of space ones are something else

The thing about VR is that it's absolutely amazing.

And you'll never bother with it again.

Why do you say that?

It's just what I found with VR in general. The first time I tried it I was staggered, it's amazing ! I was telling everyone I knew how brilliant it was. And then I quickly lost interest.

It will go one of the two ways; either like digital cameras (where the whole world has one (Ok, I know that's because most are on a phone)) or like 3D-TV, i.e. where it just died a death (again).

Interesting, because I've only had one brief go of a PC VR kit and I am indeed amazed. And wanting one.......

Yeah haha. It's like those 3d amazing eye crosseyed pics. Amazing the first time. Then meh.

I tried top spec VR in a 'mall' recently. Paid for 15 mins. Almost fell over in shock in the first 5 mins, thought it was the best thing ever.

I think it was about minute 9 I handed the kit back. No need to finish the time after the experience. It will be great when they make proper games for it, but I understand that's not happening right now.

This quest thing sounds like a game changer though. I'll give it a couple of years.

For all the fancy analogue UIs out there. It's telling that most gamers, still prefer simple digital WASD controls.

I remember those. When you finally "saw" the image you were amazed. And then.....

Yep, I do. I think the biggest issue with VR games for me has been controlling the thing.

I’ve just got a quest and I’m really enjoying it. Even just the simple apps like the google street view are incredible and immersive. There’s a handful of really good games now and plenty more on the way.

It’s so easy just to pick up and off you go.

Anyone with kids will find it’s in constant use.
