Been fed up with lack of imagination in games of late. I’ve just replayed far cry 5 which is lovely, rebooting far cry 3 and 4 this week. Then wolfenstein and possibly gta5

Loved dishonoured but couldn’t gel with 2.

Replayed the epic bad companies, but there’s only so much replaying great old games.

Is there anything new out there that’s gripping and entertaining like the above but without relying on online?

I might see if orange box works on xb1 but I’d like something new.

I tried fall out but found it boring, likewise the new Russian underground one.

Same as you OP; last new game I bought was Hitman 2 earlier this year (iirc) which I’m still playing through toward 100% completion. Otherwise I’ve been replaying ‘oldies’ like GR Wildlands, Deus Ex Mankind Divided and Horizon Zero Dawn.

Only think that has perked my interest is the new Metro game which I’m waiting for to drop to a cheap price.

Have you played red dead redemption 2 yet?

Possibly my favorite game of all time I think, been meaning to restart it again and play through being a total dick to see what difference it makes.

I've been playing through a bunch of smaller, more story driven games on Gamepass recently.

Oxenfree - a group of teenagers on a small island get caught up in some spooky alien shenanigans. It has a really clever mechanic involving your choices through the game but I won't spoil it.

Tacoma - Exploring a damaged space station unraveling what damaged it and what happened to the crew.

Outer Wilds - Small scale space exploration game with a lot of clever story and gameplay going on.

Not story driven but I've been really enjoying Dead Cells. One of the few roguelikes I've really got into. It's challenging without being punishing and it's got a really satisfying progression system.

Started playing the recent Doom reboot over the weekend. Old fashioned FPS fun, violent and over the top.

Same here. Not played any of the others, but picked this up on sale earlier in the year. Originally played for about 10-15 hours but couldn't get to grips so put it to one side, but since picking it up again about a month ago I've clocked up another 60 or so hours and it feels like I've only scratched the surface. Definitely one to persevere with.

Totally different from all the AAA-sandbox-RPGs above, but my favourite game of the year so far has been Return of the Obra Dinn. Quite short but the core game mechanic is brilliant. It's effectively an extended puzzle game but oh so compelling and like I say, very different to anything I've played before.

Had forgotten about deus x! Loved those, metro was very underwhelming.

I loved quantum break and recently had replayed that.

Online has killed any hope of gta6, now red dead’s interface is fixed I might give it a go

If you liked Quantum Break the studio that made it have a new game out called Control. People seem to like it.

This was free recently with EPIC games, they give a free game each week so should download their app. Got subnautica free from them too plus many others, often indi types.

I got Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey the other week and really enjoying it, you need to learn things as you go to progress and evolve the monkeys, really unusual and not like anything I played before. Reviews are mixed but I like it.

You could have a look at Observation. Space horror-mystery thing where you actually play a mainframe computer. Very different but wonderfully acted and properly atmospheric. I really enjoyed it.
