Anyone else playing this console version of the game? I'm rubbish at it but have found myself putting in a lot of time and really enjoying it.

I've spent some time on it but ultimately it will never be anything more than an extremely cut down and restricted version of the game from PC.

If you enjoy the console version I'd urge you to invest your time and money in the PC version instead, it's a much bigger and better game. More nations, more ships, more maps, more game modes , ranked and clan battles, more events and tie ins, 12 vs 12 instead of 9 vs 9, a full ten tiers of ships rather than only seven tiers etc.

The standard of play on PC is generally much higher, though you do still run into some awful players.

Yes thanks I did see one or two reviews on Youtube comparing the two. It's about my level on the console to be perfectly honest as I'm a die hard Fallout fan (apart from the crap 76 version which I didn't buy) and as such if I meet a real challenge tend to wander off do something else then come back to it. Legends does challenge my talent threshold but it's kept me interested.

I play on xbox from time to time, be happy to play with others from Pistonheads.

I like the idea of playing the game on console as there is still LOADS of content and they are constantly adding more so I like that I can sort of grow with the game rather than being overwhelmed.

Ive just started this. I'm enjoying it immensely buy don't really know what I'm supposed to be achieving.

Played some battles versus AI and also some real people but it seems repetitive. I can't do anything in the campaign, maybe i need to build up some skill/unlock ships first?

i think you need at least a lvl 5 ship to do the campains. I play the game on the pc on and off and have got myself upto a lvl 10 destroyer( I don't like the bigger ships) But I find myself playing a almost mad game of charge and pray I can torp a few ships before they sink me lol

The core gameplay is to play battle and earn experience to upgrade your ship and commanders.
What you really need to reach is a ship capable of completing some of the weekly challenges (cause so much damage etc etc) which in turn earns you more stuff.
The other side which you only learn by experience is strategy (and the main reason most play it). It is not a run and gun type of game, you have to use the best abilities of your ship class and plan your movements. Detection and view range is a huge mechanic and it will take a while for you to fully take advantage or even understand it fully.
Personally I play World of Tanks far more, but the principle are the same.
To get the good stuff you do have to grind a bit, but the big breakthrough comes when you start to develop strategies that stop you getting killed so quickly.
As a beginner, you really do have to sit back a bit and help when you can. Most people you meet will have been playing for ages or possibly years on the PC version.
Maybe try the Tanks version Mercenaries, you are a bit more mobile in that and things are faster paced.
Either way, to get good there is a certain amount time needed to sink into it. You cant be good just jumping in for an hour every now and then.

Good summary, As you say you do have to learn an awful lot. Much against my original thoughts I bought the Dunkerque a premium battleship and love it. I started off with the French for some reason and have not changed, just got the Richelieu which requires loads of time to get fully kitted out so that's me busy for the foreseeable future, plus I need to get a proper battleship commander.
I'm still spending loads of time playing it and trying to learn, I did try the tanks (i'm a big tank fan I have a 1/6th scale Amortek tank) but do prefer the ships.
Until the cluster**** that is Bethesda and Fallout gets sorted I'm going to continue to learn (I'm crap at computer games but I enjoy them) and be on the highs seas.

As long as you accept it's a long haul game and not a quick fix, it is a lot more enjoyable.
The more you play the more you learn without even realising it. All that complicated stuff will become second nature.
lol I've only just worked out how to use tank crews properly in Premium tanks.
