World Of Warships Legends
Discussion
Following on from this thread https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... it sounds like there are at least a couple of people on here that play. It's good fun and if you've played WOT or WOW on PC it's a very similar albeit slightly stripped back feel. It's free unless you want it to be and you can absolutely be competitive without spending any money at all.
A good way to play is to division up. This is the only online game I play because I get beaten by 12 year olds on everything else but am on for an hour or two whenever I get a chance in the evening from about 8ish (missus works nights!) so if anybody wants to add me my Xbox thing is StoatInACoat. Mainly play tier 4/5/6 and don't mind playing Destroyers, Cruisers or Battleships but I don't have a mic and use the comms wheel in game which seems to work!

I might be up for a bit of that. I play on PS4 but i'm sure Ive seen it does crossplay (if that's the right term).
I'm just working towards a level iv destroyer and cruiser so a bit behind you. I'm pretty rubbish and also pretty new to gaming so I'm not sure what i have to do to become visable to anyone who wants to play.
I'll have a look tonight and see if i can work out what i need to do.

I'd be up for a game too, as I'm f******g useless as well. I play mostly battleships Dunkerque T5, Richelieu T7 Jean Bart T7. I play mostly in AI as for some reason on standard nobody seems to sort out those pesky destroyers and I get torpped to death. In AI at least you can play the full game.

AI mode is absolutely dreadful as the bots are completely braindead. There is no challenge at all and you should win virtually every game with your eyes closed.
If you're struggling against destroyers in pvp matches then it's because you're being predictable. It is annoying when you're in a battleshipand you've got no cruisers or gunboat destroyers to help screen you from enemy destroyers. Still, you have to take responsibility for not eating torpedoes. Don't sail in straight lines, don't take predictable courses and be very cautious taking battleships into narrow spaces.
If you do see torps coming at you, turn into them to reduce the number of hits you'll take, dropping your throttle if necessary to turn in tighter. Keep your damage control ready to resolve flooding, don't waste your damage control on single fires. Battleships using damage control after taking a single fire are the easiest prey for any class of ship.
I find playing destroyers on console to be like shooting fish in a barrel as the console players are, in general, pretty inept at countering destroyers. Ineffective use of radar or hydroacoustic search, bad map control, low situational awareness. It's symptomatic of the game attracting a more casual audience than the PC version, which is in comparison, much less forgiving.

At higher tiers countering destroyers requires good cruiser players who are few and far between. Even if you're good you can be one shotted by an enemy bb so easily.
Getting to tier 7 in ai must have taken a while! I find ai a bit irritating as they just rush you and die but have a few hundred normal games under my belt. And a Warspite.

You're right of course and I've tried to follow such rules, I do play the odd game in standard with the Tier 5 Dunkerque and do occasionally enjoy it rather than being negative and knowing that I'll get zapped by something I can't even see regardless of obvious evasive action, maybe a failure in fellow players for not sorting them at the beginning but that might be just an excuseIf you're struggling against destroyers in pvp matches then it's because you're being predictable. Like I say I'm not very good but I enjoy myself, be that sticking to AI I'm not fussed. That's why I'm a big Fallout/Oblivion fan because if there is something difficult in front of you you can go around it and come back later and do it over. Of course AI is dumb at times, when it sends ships into islands and stop but then I rejoice at the chance to zap whatever it is, having only just started playing this I'm sure I'll improve be it at a slower rate than others.
Haha we had some good games, almost had a Kraken in the 5 v 5.
If I game one piece of advice for each ship type it would be:
Battleships - Don't forget to bow tank against other battleships, it seems like bringing all your guns to bear on someone who can only use their fwd turrets would mean that your are going to win but the reality is that against an angled Battleship a lot of your shots are going to bounce or miss and all of their shots are going to have a chance at hitting your citadel. Even if they don't they are all going to do damage if they hit.
Cruisers - Find cover to hide behind / fire over and stay close to the battleships to support them, use HE on everything other than a broadside cruiser.
Destroyers - Spot and screen for your team. I normally don't use destroyers but the best captains I see are the ones that spend the game setting smokescreens and spotting boats for the bigger guys to shoot at rather than rushing in and killing one ship with their torps before dying.
Oh and advice for any ship is if you see an enemy destroyer in range drop everything you are doing and focus it down!
