OK Having had a quick go with my Rift I want to get back into Elite but by the looks of things I may as well be starting from scratch so could do with some help please !! Probably not played PC for 3 years maybe more ?
Bit of history … I'm an original backer and played a fair bit at first using an X52 HOTAS. I then switched to playing on the Xbox One X where I was probably pretty close to where I was on the PC but again not played for ages.
Loading up my PC save I'm docked at Lave :
Combat Rank : Competent 32%
Trade Rank : Marchant 28%
Explorer Rank : Scout 75%
Balance : 10,332,316
Looks like I maybe in a Viper ?
Playing with the Rift would it be easier to stick to the Xbox Controller or move back onto the X52.
So basically what do I do from here ?

I was in a similar situation back in December - now sitting on 300mil credits and a small but growing fleet at ships.
Step 1 get a discovery scanner and detailed surface scanner and do a few road to riches circuits https://www.spansh.co.uk/riches
A couple of longish runs even with the viper will get you enough for a better explorer - DBX. Do longer runs, if you have horizons combine with unlocking Farseer for the jump drive mods.
Once you have your first 100mil from exploring invest in a decent mining ship, I started with a Asp explorer, currently using a Krait Mk3, and go either Panite or Low Temp Diamond mining, find the hotspots here http://edtools.ddns.net/miner. Personally I find void opal mining a bit of a miss. Don't forget to fill your cargo with limpets before you go.
More experienced players may have other suggestions, but the above has worked for me.
