Hi all
Looking for your advice please, forum did me proud on a TV recently so hoping for similar experience this time.
I've not owned a console for years but with the prospect of being inside alot more than usual I'm thinking about investing.
The last console I owned was a PS2 when they were current.
I've got a 6 year old and a 2 year old so looking for something which will have games my 6 year old will enjoy but also where I can swap in a racing game or shoot me up after they go to bed (was addicted to Goldeneye in the N64 and grand turismo on the PS2 back in the day*)

I assume my choices are Xbox or PS4 but not sure which has best choice of games and I'd like to avoid having to subscribe to an ongoing payment for access to anything.

I see they come in different spec in terms of storage etc, do I really needed the bigger one or will a base model suit my needs ?

Any advice greatly received

P.s: where's best to buy from ?

  • Sorry for using the phrase back in the day

I was similar and picked up a PS4 3weeks ago

My 5yr old loves spyro, Lego Harry Potter, Lego Jurassic Park, Lego worlds, Dreams and Everybody Golf.

I do quite like it and don’t regret not getting an Xbox

I picked up a Hori mini game pad for my daughter as well as that’s easier for her to hold than the dualshock4

I hope this is good advice. I've just dropped £300 on an Xbox with a three month Game Pass in the vain hope of keeping my kids entertained whilst the wife and I try to get some work done from home. I'm considering it a zero-cost investment since I'm not spending £500 a month on my commute at the moment. And I'm not going to pretend it isn't a little bit of a present to myself as well. Just don't tell my wife.

Unfortunately it’s 5-10 days for delivery. They’re saying it should be with me next Friday. Fingers crossed!

I got mine via Currys. £260 incl. the Star Wars game, but I paid £10 for next day delivery. Arrived today! smile

Bought 'Doom Eternal' too and Gamepass. Should keep me busy while 'working from home'.

You can download games from a library and play them while you subscribe to Game Pass. If you stop paying, you cant access the games anymore even ones you downloaded. If you like one or two games and just play those, it is cheaper to buy the game itself.
Oh and you need a fairly fast internet connection as some games can be 80Gb+ and it can take a while to install them.

My internet's only about 18mbps and never had a problem. Just set the game to download and do something else, or do it just before bed. No biggie.

As other have described but it’s 10.99 a month for Ultimate that gives you Xbox games, PC games and Xbox Live. CD keys also has it cheaper and I recently bought 3 months for £22.

I decided to go down the Ebay route. Wanted a PS4 but given the current situation and not knowing how much it will affect my work I decided to err on the side of caution and keep some pennies in the bank so went for a PS3 Slim - got it for £60. Also bagged Gran Turismo 6 for a fiver.

Hopefully it will see me through until the PS5 is released towards the end of the year.

Happy gaming.
