Vice City is the only one I played through 100%. The music and gameplay was brilliant
The original one does take the win though for the memories. Walking into a newsagent as a 12 year old, to buy a copy of a PC game magazine which had a demo on the front cover. Being scared if he will allow me to buy it, quickly running home in case he caught me and then playing it non-stop until I had enough money to buy it properly. There was even a trainer online to remove the timelimit on the demo, you just couldn't jump the bridge or it would crash

Vice City is probably my favourite, in that I remember more characters & missions even today. Been playing through San Andreas on my phone recently and whilst it is amazing, it doesn't have the same impact, a lot more forgettable mission characters (some gems though).
I played the crap out of GTA IV and it's probably my favourite one to actually play, I loved the physics engine, the cars actually felt like cars (just heavy with open diffs!), the gunplay was tremendous, it was bleak and sad but that's what it's meant to be.

One of the few long running franchises that I have played and finished every installment (perhaps the only actually...)! Including top down ones, and the spin offs (Liberty and Vice City stories. And Chinatown Wars)
GTAV for me. Most fun, best world building. Followed by IV. The PS2 era ones have aged quite badly in my opinion.

Vice City for the overall vibe, San Andreas for the vastness and gangwars, GTA V for the overall "best". Didn't really rate IV in comparison, though it is still good.
III was a game changer though and I'll never forget the first time I played it.
I picked up a bat and repeatedly beat an old lady until the controller was forcibly removed from my hands; I just couldn't stop laughing, or beating.

V for the "feel" of it, really did feel like you were in a city as much as possible for a game.
San Andreas for the amount of sandbox stuff to do.
But Vice City - story, characters, music, setting, everything was brilliant.
Wish they'd remake Vice with the "city feel" of V and the amount of fun but pointless sandbox stuff to do from SA. I know they never will due to pleasing shareholders and their own pockets but the lack of mucking about things to do after the story in V was a real let down.

1 & 2 - played demo's but just for driving around, shooting and running people over.
III - remember a roommate at uni got this on the PS2. I couldn't wait for the PC version to be released, I remember when it finally came out my PC couldn't run it so I ended up upgrading the graphics card just so I could play it. No regrets, sunk god knows how many hours into it. Even after completing I'd still drive around randomly shooting things up. I remember the multistory car park on the first island, you could hide on the middle level and then throw grenades or fire rockets out the window and the cops/fbi/army couldn't get to you - complete chaos
Vice City - by far my favourite. Again completed but then spent many hours flying around with the helicopter gunship. Great storyline and great setting.
San Andreas - played on the xBox, great game but frustrating in some points ("all you had to do was follow the damn train, CJ"). Never actually got round to finishing it as it was a point in my life where drifted away from gaming.
IV - never got into it. By this time I was not really gaming and when it came out I didn't have a PC capable of running it, other than very badly on the lowest graphics settings so gave up. A few years later I bought a better machine and gave it another go. Got about 20 hours in but not sure what happened, something to do with the online sign in and I lost my progress and couldn't be bothered to go back to it.
V - still playing this, not too far from completing the story. Good fun and the setting is jaw dropping. Have dipped into online for a bit but I'm more of a single player person and get fed up of having my arse kicked. Might give it another go as we recently upgraded broadband so might run a bit smoother.
The online rumours are that the next GTA will be set in Vice City, so fingers crossed if that is the case they can recreate the feel of the original.

That reminds me, spawning a tank and shooting backwards to launch yourself across the map.

Vice City for me. The music, the cars, it just changed games for me (I didn't play 3 until after I played VC) and they've never been the same since, I couldn't believe it was 3D and not birds eye view. I loved the Scarface themes too, the vibe of the city was spot on and I liked the dune buggy and other cars too. Make a remake Rockstar, I'll buy it day 1!
San Andreas for me, it was a masterpiece and still pretty fun today, if you can get past the aged graphics. They should definitely remaster it.
GTA V was a bit of a chore. The way it plays was great, and of course the remaster on current generation consoles looked awesome, but the story was so dull and generic. I also couldn't gel with the characters.
IV however had a fantastic setting and story, I very much enjoyed that one and rate it above V.
