Ghost of Tsushima (PS4)
Discussion
Sorry if this has been posted before, but I couldn't find a topic (perhaps a failing on PHs search or my own skills)
Anyhow, I've been looking forward to this for a while. Sony released an extended "state of play" video for the game yesterday and it looks superb - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fMlkQy7r28
Release date, 17th July, not long to go now.

Agreed. After all the fast pace, japanese theme games such as Nioh and Sekiro, which were not perfect but at least had interesting and challenging game plays, this apparently slower offering will need to have a terrific story to trigger my interest, even if it looks beautiful in this demo. The rhythm here however suggests to me it may end up as some kind of walking simulator punctuated with the odd combat. I will definitely wait for the reviews before considering buying it.

Review embargo lifts at 3pm today, I have an original PS4, rather than the pro, so it will be interesting to see how it runs on there.

Reviews seeming to confirm what a lot of people suspected from the recent gameplay reveals; pretty visuals but slow, dull, unengaging gameplay. Characters and story apparently nothing special.
After years of hype that this was going to be an unbelievable new IP for Sony that was going to take immersion to a new level, I can't help but think this has fallen massively short of the mark.

Some glowing reviews, some saying it is a filler filled but good looking open world. Well, there are plenty of those already around.
Could just keep going with my Witcher 3 New Game Plus for my open world fix, but will go further into the reviews this evening. I really want this to be great, but I'm not sure we need another boring but good looking open world.

Yeah, reviews are mixed to say the least. Eurogamer gave it a "meh" out of 10. ArsTechnica "instant contender for 2020's game of the year". I also started a new Witcher 3 game recently that I was expecting to lose my life to but I'm a real sucker for Japanese imagery. Decisions, decisions....

Reviews seem overwhelmingly positive, sounds good to me, roll on Friday
Think we must be visiting different sites for the reviews, there's a few I tend to trust, being Eurogamer, VG247 and Polygon, all of which said it was very pretty but the gameplay is formulaic and just like any other open world game, with lots of shallow side quests and filler content.

https://www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-4/ghost-of-tsushima?ref=hp Plenty hold a different opinion. At the end of the day, reviews are subjective and I will reserve my own judgement until I play it on Friday. But based on what I have read so far, I am looking forward to it.

Fair-dos, but metacritic isn't the ideal place to formulate an opinion as I'd say a good half the sites out there don't put a score on things anymore as it's a largely pointless exercise.
