I’m not what you might call entirely up to date with computer games. The last I played was Lemmings, the first one.

What I’m after is a simple flight simulator. I don’t want to fight anyone, but do want:

1/ A large choice of planes, from something Bleriot might have seen as old fashioned, to a modern Learjet. I’d be happy with Sopwith Camels and other fighters, such as Hawker biplanes, Fury and Hart, and onto the Hunter. Perhaps even a seaplane or floatplane. I always wanted to compete in the Schneider Trophy.

2/ A variation of airports and landing strips, going from easy to all but impossible.

3/ Possible random problems, such as a wheel falling off, fuel problems, that sort of thing.

4/ I’m not only after free but don’t want to spend a fortune. Once my work picks up, I'll dump it. Er, if my work picks up.

My desktop set up for 3D modelling, with two 24" screens, and there’s a decent enough GPU and processor for something undemanding.

One of the flight sim nerds will be along shortly I am sure. However Flight Simulator X is available cheaply and still pretty well played and supported. I dip in here and there and still enjoy it.
