Really torn on this, I generally play Career Mode and they have once again done the bare minimum by the looks of it

Hearing a lot of talk about PES improving, have D/L PES 2020 on Gamepass to compare a bit

If you have Game Pass Ultimate, you should be able to play Fifa 21 for a few hours from November 10th, due to EA Play joining forces with Game Pass. That is what I plan on doing, as I too only have an interest in career mode.

Bit of help please all. I've stepped away from FIFA and PES for sometime now.

Was considering stepping back into FIFA21, shall i bother? i rarely get into story games and need something a bit of pick and play. I've bee doing COD for a while now, but bit bored of shooting people up constantly.

Used to love FIFA, what's the craic though? I never did FUT, all the trading cards and things what's that about? Not interested but is it because i just don't get it?

I liked career mode but i preferred career mode as a single player (like Alex Hunter Journey style) where you build one player up over time, is that any good?

And lastly, will i just get hammered by online players once i get back in?

Ultimate team is fairly easy to understand, you get cards/players and put them together in a team. But for them to play well them need chemistry which you get by the players nearby being either the same nationality or from the same league. This lets you build up a team of your favourite leagues/nations or create hybrids mix.

You can still play single player and build up your pro and progress him. There is also a online version called pro clubs where you level up a online pro by either playing in a club with friends or a free drop in game. Much better with friends as you all know your set positions and can call for passes easily.

Single player manager career is also getting some updates this year to make it better I got told, not looked into it as single player isnt really my thing.

Never been a fan of PES so cant comment. Not even a thought which game to get.

Cheers for the feedback Slow. I guess i dont get the need for Single Player Manager mode, as surely i'd rather buy FM21 than FIFA for it? But sounds like i might take a punt and get back into FIFA.

For me, PES isn't perfect but I think after a few hours of play something clicks and you realise how superior the gameplay is.

However, FIFA has all the razzamataz so it's never an easy decision and as pes is just a season update this year I'll give FIFA another go.

got my first Fifa game in years on this.

I'm ste. First online game i got PUMPED 5-0. Second, 5-1.

Anyway after some more practice i've improved slightly, but quite some way off where i was in the old days (and no where near the highs of FIFA 98 believe me).

Doesn't help always picking Tottenham then getting lumped into matches with Munich, PSG and Madrid.

I've always struggled online, I'm st at the defending, just can't tackle people

What helped me learn to defend was playing pro clubs. Do the drop in games and make your pro a cb or cdm. It will be st at the start but you pick up positioning and tackling very well.

Ok so think i've improved somewhat, played someone who was PSG and beat him 2-0. If you cant defend then just bin the game off.

Basically need to ensure you are using L2 + R2 to stand players up when they're running at you and effectively block them off without actually tackling, just stand them up.

Ive always used the Legacy defending as I only played Career Mode, then each year when the new one comes out I try and get into FUT and cannot defend so get the hump and go back to Career Mode hehe

I've never used R2 so will give that a go, I have been using A to try and contain and then X (Xbox controls) so will have another play about later

enjoying FIFA but FFS, can the whole world stop picking PSG?

I'm always Spurs, but it's non really enjoyable when you play 10 online games and 8 of them have been against PSG where everyone just lumps to Mbappe to run on.

Its the Meta to have fast strikers, kane is too slow to play that way.

Mbappe and Neymar are both 90+ pace and kane is like 55. You would have more joy playing bale/son/berg/lucas through the middle as they are also really fast.

I haven't payed a new Fifa game in years and I'm surprised they haven't fixed the 'use whatever player is fastest' issue yet.

Its the same in real life though, being able to run faster than someone is important for running in behind.

There are custom tactics you can set up to counter it but its not really usable for the online games outside of ultimate team as you cant presetup custom tactics. Things such as 5 at the back sitting back deep counters the run over the top but allows midfielders more space to pass around in front of them etc.

The game has different defensive styles such as high press, press on heavy touch, press on loss of ball, drop back, balanced.

Running high press all games murders their energy so you need to set up your 5 tactics - ultra defence, defence, balanced, attacking, ultra attacking - in different ways for how the game is going.

I start off in high press for the first half with quick build up which leaves me open to the counter but provides lots of chances to score myself. Normally 2-3 up by half time so I change into a balanced defensive style with a possesion based attack which just slows the game down till they get mad and go all out attack and then I can change into a counter attacking style of attack to finish the game off.

It might just be an old career mode thing then, where I'll end up with every player for Rotherham United sprinting like Usain Bolt hehe
