Xbox X or PS5?
Discussion
Ive always had PlayStation, ever since the very first incarnation. I’ve never owned an Xbox.
Only reason I stick with PS is that it’s a known entity and I’ve never had problems. But this time I’d like to base my decision on something more tangible.
Given that the difference in specs of both PS5 and Xbox X are likely negligible (to me), I’m going to base my decision on what games I can get for each console, and which console offers the best online gaming opportunities.
That being said, I’ve 2 questions;
1) what are the advantages and disadvantages of each console when it comes to online gaming?
2) is there a list of exclusive titles for each console? Or does anyone have a list of exclusives for PS4 / Xbox 360?

Xbox is traditionally better than Playstation for online gaming - nicer set of 'quality of life' features.Only reason I stick with PS is that it’s a known entity and I’ve never had problems. But this time I’d like to base my decision on something more tangible.

Playstation 5 likely to have far more exclusives than Xbox Series S|X, as it did with the PS4/XBox One generation.
The big selling point of the Xbox is Gamepass and the monthly payment deal.
As someone on Playstation since PS3, I've ordered an Xbox Series S just to get access to the Gamepass and have a taste of Next Gen at a low price. I have a ton of unplayed/unfinished games still on my PS4 Pro so I'll be using both of them plus my PC for gaming. When Sony come out with their 'slim' version of PS5 in a year and a half or two, I'll consider it.

Thanks Lucas. Can you expand on the Gamepass and monthly payment deal? I’ve not heard of it before...
The monthly payment is Xbox All Access https://www.xbox.com/en-GB/xbox-all-access available through Game or Smyths. The system didn't go well on the pre order launch day, there were many fubars and unhappy people because the Klarna finance system went wrong. No idea if it's working now or if the unhappy people have been sorted.ajprice said:

It’s about access too all the games in the store rather than having to buy any games, with the cost of the console rolled up into the payment, of, I think £27.
Having owned both consoles from PS1 / Xbox, the Xbox is just a much better overall system, but the PS does have more exclusives although with MS buying Bethesda’s parent company ...
I won’t be buying a PS5 and have ordered a series X.

Thanks. I don’t think I’m fussed for Xbox All Access (I play an average of 2-3 games per year so won’t have use for the 100+ games advertised). I can’t see much difference in price between PS Plus and XBox Gamepass. Am I missing anything?
Gamepass & PS Plus are not the same thing.PS Plus lets you play games you own online.
Gamepass lets you play games you don't own. Effectively its spotify for games, albeit the library is small (compared to spotify).
PS Now is like gamepass, but it doesn't let you play brand new games like gamepass - you'll need to wait a while.

Thanks for this. I guess what I’m saying is £27 per month x 24 months is £650. Xbox X is £450 which means I’m paying £200 for what is essentially 4-6 games over 2 years (as that’s all I will play). I guess it’s probably not a bad deal as I will probably spend £200 on 4-6 games anyway? It’s about access too all the games in the store rather than having to buy any games, with the cost of the console rolled up into the payment, of, I think £27.

Didn’t realise that MS had bought Bethesda. No Fallout on PS might swing it for me....
Probably subjective and hard to explain but can I ask why the Xbox Is a much better overall System?

Yes they’ve bought Zenimax, it may (or may not) mean ES and Fallout become exclusive which is enough to swing it for me!
I find it more intuitive, everything is just there (Apps / YouTube / store / MS Account, I always found the PS interface ‘clunky’. Probably a personal preference though

There is no "better system". Its personal opinion.
I don't lke the Xbox UI, its an unintuitive mess as far as I'm concerned, its awkward to find some functions.
MS are certainly throwing the money around at gamepass, thereis some logic to it, after all everything else is going service based, so why shouldn't games ? The concern I have is that its going to get expensive, MS admit it barely makes a profit, they have either bought or set up a bunch of studios that all need funding, there is also the hardware losses (as usual) and the repayment of the investment they've made in to the studios. They basically need 100+ million subscribers. They currently have 15m, but many of those have got cheap deals - in the US they got 1 year access for $1 if they had xbox gold. Even now, I saw someone on another forum got 3 years for £87. Its great for gamers right now, take advantage while you can.
Do be aware that Xbox does remove games from gamepass after a while - fine if you just want to play the latest stuff but if you want to come back to an older game you may find its not available any more.
PS Now actually has more games on it but it doesn't have brand new games on it.
Don't discount current gen either - MS have committed to releasing all 1st party games on the Xbox One too - so you could get a One X, still play in 4K and not miss out on any games.
Basically, its a case of buy whatever system your mates have and has the games you want.
