I'm organising a team building event for my work team of ~8. Pretty cheesy, but better than working! Clearly we can't go karting or whatever at present so looking at online options.

I've found Pogo Monopoly online but it's riddled with adverts and IT probably wouldn't be happy with Flash games.

Many of the team have an Xbox Game Pass subscription, but probably not all of them. Obviously the chosen game has to cater to all tastes, hence the suggestion for a pretty tame board game or similar. The whole team are pretty tech savvy so should be able to get whatever it is working ok, so no concerns there.

Free (or included in Game Pass) would be ideal, but I would consider paid options for the group game, though not options where each player has to pay up.

Any good ideas for me folks?

among Us seems pretty popular at the moment and hardly complicated for the casual player to pick up?

I mean, it's about lying and blindly accusing your teammates, voting people out etc. but would no doubt be a bit of fun...

Look into modded Minecraft, there are dozens (hundreds?) of puzzles and group challenges for all abilities. You don't really need the challenges, you can just use the base multiplayer Minecraft to set your own goals and develop ideas.

Bit left field but what about a board game shared over zoom/teams ?

I've been leading an intense project over Covid which has all been online whereas we'd normally do it through F2F workshops. We would normally have taken the team our for a meal or a few beers along the way. The Project mgr suggested we get together on a Friday evening for a beer and play a game. We themed the meeting (in term of a theme for your background) for a laugh to see what people came up with, then played a Game called Herd Mentality with our Project Mgr as master of ceremonies. It was completely childish but we still had fun....over a few beers. It worked because we had already gelled as a team through the project, and the ones that turned up (it wasn't compulsory) were up for a laugh anyway.

Second this. Team game, like a murder mystery. So most of the team need to work together to find out who the "murderer" is... It's hilarious fun.

Sounds like the sort of thing I would engineer an internet fault for the day. I'm sure some must enjoy team building events though..

There's a game where you play as a pair and you're disarming a bomb. Except one of you is actually at the bomb, and one of you is reading from a book. The brave one is describing what's on the bomb, certain numbers on the buttons etc, and the book worm is finding out the corresponding instructions.

Can't remember what it's called, my break is nearly over, but someone will know what game I'm on about.

Keep talking and nobody explodes.

I'd suggest Overcooked as a great way to start arguements, laugh at friends and family in distress and "banter" but it's couch co-op only at the moment.

Depending on how "gamey" the group is Terraria can host many players in a world of your own and then turn on PVP and even PVP teams.

Freeciv? Could be a massive timesink though.

World of Warships at low tiers can be silly fun.

I always like the idea of this, I don't play Red Dead but would certainly pick it up if we started doing this at work

I'm sure some people love it but I also hate this sort of thing. Ugh, even the thought makes me shudder.

among us, it costs around £5 on Steam (less than that, I think).
Runs on any PC, even an Intel Integrated chipset one.
And you can be on Discord or Teams together at the same time.
