So I need new headset as my PS4 wireless Turtle Beach isnt compatible with the PS5.
But it's a mine field. Inconsistent reviews, unclear specifications to understand if one is better than another and no clear this is better because X.
Budget is £50 - £150 but I'm not interested in £200+ units.
Doesn't need to be wireless but I need it to enhance Warzone game play and FPS shooters like battlefield.
What I dont get is why wired is better for sound quality when the wire is going into a wireless controller. Nor do I understand people's desire for wireless when most sit on a couch or desk and it's in the wireless controller anyway ......
What am I missing and what do you use and would you recommend it?

Thinking I may go for the Steel Series Arctic 3. Currently £40 at Curry's.
Whilst I can easily tell myself that £150 is well spent with the 8 hours a week I play on my console I could also rationalise spending £300 saying it's a 4 year device.
So anyone want to say that the £40 would be a waste of money.

i was in a similar position to you OP years back when i wanted a headset. It's hard to find good, reliable opinions. reviews are from casuals, and too much focus is on 'gamer'.
Having said that, I settled on buying some WIRED astro a40's with the mixamp. all wired, I've owned these for years (5+) and have only replaced the odd cable here and there from natural wear and tear.

Definitely not Steel Series, they are so flimsy, Reddit is absolutely chock full of photo’s of broken hinges and the support is equally terrible.
I got a set for my Series X, the Xbox specific version, from 10ft away in direct site of my Xbox they would cut in/out to the point of being totally unusable so I returned them to Amazon. I did a little more research and for £200 I dodged a bullet as they were crap and the sound was really bland too.
I replaced them with some Xbox specific Corsair’s that are amazing and have been absolutely flawless.
I know it’s a PS5 thread, but just posting my experiences of Steel (ironic name) Series.

I’ve got steel series arctic pro wired and while the sound quality is great and they are the comfiest headset I’ve worn, the wire on my version is an absolute Pain.
The cable kinks up and stays permanently like that,so you feel a constant pull to one side, if it didn’t have a the wire it would be a solid 9/10 headset for me

Ironically, the cheapest version has a different hinge design I believe.

I will.
Whilst im no eSports legend i PC game at a fairly serious level (mainly play Tarkov), in that I favour hard core fps games where sound design is central to the experience.
The Arctis 7 wireless i own are easily the best screwed together gaming headset ive used and sound quality is excellent. Not comparable to my dedicated audio headsets, but superb in gaming terms. These headsets regularly win out in the group tests for good reason.
I don’t know if they cheaped out on the console versions but the echo chamber that is Reddit doesn’t factor much in my thinking im afraid.

I use the Razer Barracuda X. Wireless but you plug in a single to the USB-C port rather than using the built in Bluetooth (never understood why Sony do that, could have saved myself a fortune on headsets over the years and used my Bose headphones). RRP is £99 but you’ll find them cheaper, mine were £65 in a pre Christmas sale at Currys
With regard to wired vs wireless, from what I’ve read I am very sure there is a slight difference in sound quality if the wired ones are plugged directly into the console, but my hearing isn’t good enough to detect it. One of my friends who’s massively into PC gaming says there’s a delay in the sound happening compared to wired, but I’d imagine we are talking microseconds and again undetectable by me. I just like decent sound quality and less hassle with wireless; I used to get the cable stuck round legs, beer bottles and more!

These are the best headphones I've ever had. They come with an app for your phone and have Super-Human-Hearing too. They may be a bit heavy for some.

They were 20% off so a decent deal.
