Not sure if anyone is aware, and i cannot see another post about this.
But the game, Cities : Skylines, is free until 4PM today from Epic.

For those that don't know what this is, it's like SimCity, but better with far more control and none of the EA restrictions.

You'll need to setup an account with Epic, but this in itself is not a bad thing, given that they like to give away free premium games.
Recent examples were GTA 5, Ghostbusters and the Batman collection.

Enjoy

Very enjoyable game. It's what the new SimCity SHOULD HAVE BEEN!

I really should enjoy this game but I don't like bulldozing people's houses to sort out a gridlock, and whenever I try and implement public transport about 3 people use it hehe

They are giving a game away every day for the next two weeks instead of one a week.

My wife played this for about half an hour and said the controls are unmanageable.

Dunno what she means, but she's binned the game.

Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee

Shall we use this to update the daily freebies from Epic?

One thing I never liked were the "death waves" you'd get every few years so your funeral services get completely overwhelmed. In fact I really wish there was a way to turn that off completely (Xbox version so no mods), as when you'd be seeing dead body warning over primary schools or shops it just felt a bit.....inappropriate in a game rated PEGI 3?

Lockdown. It's the only way apparently.

The "eldercare" facilities they introduced in Sunset Harbour seem to have cut back on that a bit. Best strategy is still to avoid zoning too much high density residential at the same time. Eliminating traffic jams helps as well.

I missed that one, due to working.

However The Long Dark is now up for grabs until 4PM.
Another game that i lost hours to, when it first came out - within survival mode.

I downloaded cities skylines, thought it would be something that can have half an eye on whilst doing other things, unfortunately it causes my laptop to overheat and shut down inside 10 minutes hehe according to some software I downloaded cpu temps rise 30-40 degrees in a short time.

The laptop has a reasonable spec (i7-3632QM, 8gb, discrete graphics) but is probably 8+ uears old. if you put your hand near the heat outlet there isn't much movement, guessing the fans aren't moving much air. its fine for just browsing or non games stuff though.

I have had a look, but its quite clean inside.

Powered it up whilst in bits and found out the vent on the side is actually an intake to the fan, which blows out of the centre upwards on to the underside of a metal plate and the keyboard, which explains why it was getting hot to the touch. Its a bit of a strange design.

This isn't the exact same model, but you can see the fan on the left, air ingested from the side and spat out the top, how the fk that is sufficient I don't know. Even running the game with the keyboard popped out helps to keep temperatures down and seems to stop the shutdowns.

Predictions are doing good smile

Alien:Isolation is brilliant and would highly recommend anyone picks this one up. Bloody hard game but true to film in atmosphere if you are a fan of the series, I loved it.
