Our aging PS3 seems to have died, but am I right in thinking if we bought a PS4 or PS5 we wouldn't be able to play the old PS3 games without subscribing to Playstation Now? My wife uses our PS3 to play a few older games (Prince of Persia and Lego Star Wars more recently), but isn't really a serious gamer, plus we occasionally use it as a Blueray/DVD player.

A few PS3's pop up on the local Facebook marketplace but obviously they're all pretty old now so no idea how long they'll keep working for, but it doesn't seem worth getting a PS4 or PS5 if none of the games we have work on them, and it doesn't get much use anyway.

You will probably find most if not all of your favourite PS3 games have been remastered for the PS4. I kept my PS3 for about 12 months after getting the PS4 and never even used it once, it's quite a sizeable step forward from the PS3 so well worth the upgrade and can be picked up vcheaply now the PS5 is out, older games are also cheap on the PS store sales or used.

Yeah, no hardware except a decent spec PC with emulator is capable of playing PS3 games. Even then, not all games.

I still run 2x PS3s. The older one - the OG model with PS2 compatibility - is a bit knackered and I'm half expecting it to die any day. I also have a newer PS3 'Super Slim' which is holding up pretty well though.

IMO they make for better Blu Ray players than the PS4 (I have a PS4 Pro). Plus, If you have a Logitech Harmony remote you can wake it from the remote and have full transport controls for BD video playback, unlike the PS4 where you need to wake from the Dualshock and lose the transport controls when playing Blu Rays.

There are so many PS3;s for sale at about £50, it seems daft to get anything else smile
