My son’s existing gaming chair, which was only a cheapie a couple of years ago, is gradually falling to pieces so I said I’d get him a (better) replacement. Budget of up to £150 - does anyone have a recommendation?

Also, the one he has now is the “X-Rocker” type. I was thinking of replacing it with one of the pimped-up office chair type (stop me if this is getting too technical), but I’m worried this may be a bit too high for the TV he runs his Playstation through, which is on a lounge-type stand rather than a desk. Do the office type ones go low enough for this?

That looks good to me. Like a lot of them though, it’s out of stock. I guess demand is really high at the moment.

I had a gaming bean bag. Cost over 100 at the time, but you sit on it and the sides come up like arm rests etc. Ended up the only thing I could sit on when I done my back in. Random but it got me through. An alternative if no chairs can be found

Yeah, most of the gaming chairs are either rubbish or very overpriced for what you get. Regular office chairs are typically much better value for the money and better for your back.

They have however managed to pay off enough 'influencers' to push their product to the extent where some sort of branded gamer chair is de-facto for streamers, so lots of people think that they must be good.

Unfortunately, like many other office-y things, the price of Office Chairs to the consumer has temporarily gone through the roof with all the people working from home. Ikea do a good range of cheap office chairs if you can find them in stock.

I think either type of chair is going to be a bit high for his setup, so I'll see if he fancies one of these bean bag style ones. If not it will have to be another X-Rocker and accept they only last a couple of years.

How old is your son?

We recently got this one for ours, he's 7.

I get that office chairs might be better for adults, but for what a 7 year old needs a gaming chair for - ipads, a little x box and Switch; its ideal. He loves the speaker in it - Bluetooth streaming no issue. Obviously as you move up to better set-ups and PCs, I don't think X Rocker is the way to go. It also colour matches his room.

I think its a sturdy unit, pretty weighty - ideal for kids. I think Argos do it for around 150 quid so bang on budget.

Much like gaming PCs, why do manufacturers insist on making them look so awful and as if they were designed by a five year old? Go with an office chair and it might look a little less 'bucket racing seat strapped to your mums Ford Fiesta'. Don't even get me started on gaming PC neon lights.

U OK HUN?

wink

BTW, if you're going to berate someone (or a high percentage of gaming computer buyers), then please correctly refer to their garish lighting choice as RGB...it's not NEON...otherwise you might confuse our silly little brains.

However, that will probably apply to anything that is customisable, as what you think is garish and superfluous may not be to someone else (e.g. I can't stand the lighting strips in BMW Minis).
